Air Force COT August 2016

Published

Hello there! I wanted to create a page for people who got selected into the AF nurse corps and will be attending COT this August 2016!! It will be great to already know people when we go, so please introduce your self and let everyone know how the process is going!

My name is Kristen, I've been a NICU nurse at Childrens Hospital Colorado for about 2.5 years now. My husband is a medic in the Air Force (active duty). I am so excited to have been selected for NICU nursing in the Air Force!! Right now we live at whiteman AFB in Missouri but will be moving to San Antonio later this year which is where I will be stationed! Congrats to everyone who got selected!

Hello again everyone! Sorry for being afk for awhile, my grad program is keeping me busy until COT. Since the last post after finding out I was accepted I had to resend a lot of my paperwork (transcripts, passport, drivers license, etc.) to my recruiter. I also filled out my preference for years of commitment to the Air Force. After that I had two set of finger prints done for a background check, a lot of forms for student loan repayments, filled out my medical record two of three more times then waited a few weeks. I got briefed on what would happen at meps on Monday, then arrived at meps at 0445 this morning. It's much like everything else military related...hurry up and wait. But most of the staff there were pleasant enough and tried to make it less than miserable. After filling out more paperwork in the wee hours of the morning we got our vision and hearing tested. Then breathalyzed. Then got watched while peeing for a UA/drug screen. Then on to the blood draw. Then we waited, and waited and waited. There were three docs for 24 of us so it took awhile for the to do our physical and medical interview. After that, they grouper us in groups of about 7 and stripped us down to our underwear and did height and weight. After that it was the underwear Olympics. Following that, our paperwork was signed off and double checked and we were dismissed. It was a long day, but really felt like I accomplished a big step. Hope everyone is doing well and things are running smoothly.

Good morning guys! I was just wondering if all of you guys on this forum are all going AD? Because your process sounds like it is different from how things have been going for me. I am applying to be a flight nurse in the Air Force Reserves.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mrs27smith! I'm not 100% sure about the majority of folks on this post but I think it's pretty even 50/50 split between ad and reserves. I am going active duty, but if you have any questions I'll answer what I can!

Cheers,

Eric

Congrats TnRN43 that's a welcome surprise I'm sure! I haven't seen any mention of a Facebook page yet for our COT group. If you see one please pass the info along! I might make one if there isn't one in a few weeks. Congrats again!!

Hi all,

The cot website shows that we are going to be class 16-06. However I don't think this is correct as there are other Facebook groups with this designation for a June cot class. I'm assuming we will be 16-08 (August), but before I made a Facebook page I wanted to make sure this is correct. If anyone has more information please feel free to post on here or link the Facebook page. Hope everyone is doing well, August is rapidly approaching!

Hi! We are in fact Class 16-06. The class and dates are located on the Air Force cot page.

I hope you all are working on your physical fitness. If you haven't looked @ your requirements for your age/gender bracket, I suggest you do that NOW and work on it TODAY.

Whether your recruiter told you or not, you will be tested to these standards the first week of training and you will not be doing any PT during that week so you need to come in shape and ready. If you do not pass the PT test (you have to get the minimums on EVERY category) you WILL be sent home. NO exceptions. Your recruiter may not have told you this, but it is extremely important to know. I would train now and go into COT wondering if you are going to get a perfect PT score or not, NOT if you are going to pass or not.

When I say NO exceptions, I mean NO exceptions. I'll give you an example. There was a young HPSP student who did the 1.5 mile in around 9.5 minutes, almost maxed his push ups, but fell short by about 3-4 sit ups and he still was sent home. You will NOT stay if you can not pass the PT. Don't think "I am in very good shape I'll get in a little more shape while i'm there and I will be fine" because you WILL NOT BE.

Please do NOT post Facebook links here — it violates the website Terms of Service (TOS). You can post the group's title so that members can search for it on Facebook, but no actual links. Thanks! :)

We have a Facebook group now. The name is Air Force COT 16-06. It is a closed group for privacy reasons, so I will do my best to keep watch over the requests to join. If you need to reach me my email will be posted below. Keep up the hard work and I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

I am currently working at a level 3 Nicu in Anchorage Alaska and I have always wanted to join the AF and now that im about to hit my 2 year mark im ready to start applying. My husband is enlisted as a Jet engine mechanic and has been in for almost 10 years. We have decided me joining would be a great opportunity. I have always wanted to serve my country. I know this post is kind of old but would love any incite to the process, interviews and how you are liking it currently.
