  1. We have a Facebook group now. The name is Air Force COT 16-06. It is a closed group for privacy reasons, so I will do my best to keep watch over the requests to join. If you need to reach me my email will be posted below. Keep up the hard work and I am looking forward to meeting everyone. Eric [email protected]
  2. Hi all, The cot website shows that we are going to be class 16-06. However I don't think this is correct as there are other Facebook groups with this designation for a June cot class. I'm assuming we will be 16-08 (August), but before I made a Facebook page I wanted to make sure this is correct. If anyone has more information please feel free to post on here or link the Facebook page. Hope everyone is doing well, August is rapidly approaching! Eric
  3. Congrats TnRN43 that's a welcome surprise I'm sure! I haven't seen any mention of a Facebook page yet for our COT group. If you see one please pass the info along! I might make one if there isn't one in a few weeks. Congrats again!!
  4. Hi Mrs27smith! I'm not 100% sure about the majority of folks on this post but I think it's pretty even 50/50 split between ad and reserves. I am going active duty, but if you have any questions I'll answer what I can! Cheers, Eric
  5. Hello again everyone! Sorry for being afk for awhile, my grad program is keeping me busy until COT. Since the last post after finding out I was accepted I had to resend a lot of my paperwork (transcripts, passport, drivers license, etc.) to my recruiter. I also filled out my preference for years of commitment to the Air Force. After that I had two set of finger prints done for a background check, a lot of forms for student loan repayments, filled out my medical record two of three more times then waited a few weeks. I got briefed on what would happen at meps on Monday, then arrived at meps at 0445 this morning. It's much like everything else military related...hurry up and wait. But most of the staff there were pleasant enough and tried to make it less than miserable. After filling out more paperwork in the wee hours of the morning we got our vision and hearing tested. Then breathalyzed. Then got watched while peeing for a UA/drug screen. Then on to the blood draw. Then we waited, and waited and waited. There were three docs for 24 of us so it took awhile for the to do our physical and medical interview. After that, they grouper us in groups of about 7 and stripped us down to our underwear and did height and weight. After that it was the underwear Olympics. Following that, our paperwork was signed off and double checked and we were dismissed. It was a long day, but really felt like I accomplished a big step. Hope everyone is doing well and things are running smoothly.
  6. Hi Kristen, congrats on your selection! My name is Eric and I was selected for August COT as well. I'm going in as an OR nurse, and will be stationed at SAMMC also. I currently live in Phoenix AZ so I'm excited that there won't be too much climate change. Have you gone to meps yet? I talked to my recruiter last night and he said he was finishing up some paperwork before I can go. Looking forward to talking with you and congrats again! Eric
  7. I just got a call from my recruiter, I got selected! Very elated right now and I was told that I was the only OR nurse to be selected for January boards (whether or not that's true I don't know). I know there were 18 slots for OR nurses this year and counting me there are 15 remaining. COT date is 15Aug and first station is SAMMC. Good luck to all those applying and congrats to those selects and alternates.
  8. I heard the boards got pushed back to first/second week of January. My recruiter says we will find out end of January. I'm applying for OR nursing. Good luck!
  9. Hi all, thanks for being so informative thus far! I'm assuming most people in this thread applied pre-october? I turned in my application for second boards in December, and am curious how long you all waited before hearing the official or unofficial results? I know it's a case by case basis, but I'm just trying to get a range for timing purposes. I'm also an OR rn, so that probably doesn't help either. As far as all of your base choices, did you get top three of your choices, or was it "the need of the Air Force first"? Thanks in advance and congratulations to all of you selects!
  10. Most of those materials are very helpful, however I would also add the kaplan strategies book (the thin one), and the NCSBN Review extension found here... NCSBN Learning Extension . NCLEX preparation . Continuing Education for Nurses . Nursing Faculty Education . I highly recommend just doing as many practice questions as possible and if you see a trend of questions you're getting incorrect review that particular topic. Don't forget to take a small break the day before the exam and do a small warm-up activity the day of the test so you're ready to go! If you made it through nursing school alive then thats more than half the battle to passing nclex! I just passed on Saturday and got my license number this morning! Keep calm & Nurse On!!
  11. the pvt is kind of daunting at first, but it's good to know! Best of luck to you, it sounds like you really have overcome some hurdles and deserve this! I'm rooting for you!!
  12. Congrats on starting!!! You're in for a wild ride. I am just about to start preceptorship this week so let me answer what I can...The schedule changes throughout all 4 blocks, but starting out you're in class a lot more like 4 days a week which includes lab time (hands on stuff). The profs use a lot of the theory text book so it's hard to say what chapters to pick out. hesis are taken at the end of each block. and block one is theory and nursing process and the basics of care with a little bit of acute care. block two is basics of acute care, three is med-surg peds and ob. and block 4 is pysch and critical care. hope this helps and my piece of advice is go into class with an open mind and listen to every instructor because even of you don't like their teaching style they still know what they're talking about. Best of luck!!! Cheers
  13. Just finished checking my acceptance for the fall 2011 cohort at gateway (accelerated program) and was wondering if anyone else has accepted placement here as well? Congrats to everyone who got selected and keep your chin up to those who are still waiting it'll be your turn real soon!!
  14. I'm in the same boat, got up an hour before my alarm went off and checking email every so often. Then checking back here to see if anyone else has had some news. Preferably good news at that. Well good luck to everyone who's trying for the october cohort.
