Aide @ Beaumont in MI

Do nursing aides/assistants need to be certified to work at Beaumont? Or do they train you?

And also, do you need to be a CNA to be a Nurse Tech?

When I agreed to an interview they called me three times. I was holding out for Oakwood because I had applied there a few times but never heard back from them. Beaumont kept calling so I interviewed and got hired right away. My cousin's wife on the other hand had a hard time getting hired there.

I am lucky that I have a good job right now, so I am not trying too hard to get a cna job. It does make me wonder though, when I get done with my studies and pass the nclex, will it be diffucult to get my first RN job? As soon as I am done with med/surg rotation should I try to get a nurse tech position to get my foot in the door somewhere? I know no one in the healthcare field that could help me out. Sorry if I've hijacked this thread.

When you finish your med/surg rotation, your school will probably have a job fair. Mine did. And you can apply to various nurse externships at different hospitals. Nurse techs/nurse externs are the same thing. Just keep up your GPA and when you finish med/surg, start putting in applications. Just remember there are other externship programs besides Beaumont's. Henry Ford, where I work now, has a good externship program especially for critical care.

I was hoping you could help me. I have been accepted to Oaklands Nursing Program, but would love to get some experience. Do you know where I can find on the job training. I would rather not have to spend more money to get trained, but I guess if that is what I have to do then that is what I will do.

Any recommendations for training programs would be great! Thanks. I will try to find info on Henry Fords website too.

If you can apply for any nursing assistant positions at Henry Ford or Beaumont, they train you. I believe Henry Ford calls their assistants "care partners". If you can get an aide position, you can always apply for an externship after you complete med/surg.

Michigan_RN - That's good that you found a place that you really enjoy! I had a nurse come in to my work and was putting down Beaumont, saying Henry Ford was the best place she worked at. I've heard so many good things about it!

What did you dislike about working at Beaumont?
