Ahpra application refusal

World Registration

Published

Hi everyone,

I´m a registered nurse from Germany with 4 years experience. Went to the whole registration process with ahpra and waited 7 months. Today I received an email, that they are considering to refuse my application. The reason for that is, that they do not consider my training as equivalent with the Australian one. That is really a joke. Has someone ever been in this situation before? How did you write your appeal letter?

In fact they require a Bachelor in Nursing to get registered. However, the German education system has no Bachelor therefore. The three years education here is based on a Nursing School system which in the end has lots of more theory as well as practical hours...

It seems to me that Australia just finding ways to limit oversease nurses.

This is why it is listed on the SOL, isn't it!?

Hi everyone. I can totally understand all these overseas nurses who are angry at ahpra... I was really ****** too. I am from Switzerland and got my refusal 9 months after i had submitted all my forms to ahpra and spent heaps of money with Ielts tests, translations etc. Anyway it took them 9 month to refuse me and the reason was i dont hold a bachelor degree. I was so ****** cause ahpra could have told me from the start. They compared me with an enroled nurse in australia which i found was ridicolous cause I have done a 3 year endorsed enroled nursing apprenticeship and afterwards a 3 year registered nurse diploma in switzerland....so 6 years and they tell me im like 1.5 year in australia...i didnt bother giving them more money and appealing... Also swiss nurses are under the 2007 eu directive too but it seems like they dont care about that nor did they look at my hours or subjects i ssume cause i compared them to those of australian nurses and it was very similar...anyway so i went back to switzerland and will do a bachelor part time here cause they offer a bachelor here as well now... But when i asked ahpra if a swiss bachelor would be recognised in australia the lady only said i have to apply again and then they will compare it to the australia bachelor....abyway another 2 years part time studies here and then it might be enough for them ;-).... But to all those nurses with diplomas from overseas dont waste ur time and money with ahpra.

I also asked ahpra if i can work as a enroled nurse then and the lady said no cause u dont have work wxperience as a enrolled nurse then i said i have 3 years experience as a registered nurse but u said my qualifications are equal to a enrolled nurse.... But i can still not work as that cause i havent worked as a enrolled nurse only as a more qualified nurse lol they just make no sense at all ;-)

Hello to all,

I just read most of these past pages, and feel everyone's pain. Almost sick to my stomach - literally.

My drama is similar, although still awaiting word from AHPRA, since my application in August last year. Since November they have been saying that my application is in it's last stage.

I studied in US, associate degree, as well as LVN (vocational nurse) degree, have a couple of years experience, both in nursing home and acute hospital. After reading all the above posts, am not expecting good news, but if any of you know of RN from US with associate degree, please post. This is just crazy!!!

Good luck to all of us!

I know this is no consolation, but ADN not be recognised in Australia is not something new. Around late 80's there was an influx of nurses from the USA into Victoria- Melbourne and the then state nursing board Victorian Nursing council, gave everyone Enrolled Nurse status, was a big hu ha, at the time but they stuck by their decision. it does really stink though when you would love to work for family or tourist reasons and your nursing qualification is not recognised, in the country you want to live or visit. Australia nurses have this opposition all the time. :(. Might still come through as positive though! Chin up.

Thank you ceridwyn for your reply. So, what response from them do you think is the most likely scenario? Refusal, bridging course? Living in a different country is not really an option for me personally as settled here with OZ husband and kids. Which is great. But in this case sucks:)

Having to take the classes all over again seems like a huge burden.

Hi to all. Here's a little update from my end. I have just received my LOD (Letter of Determination) from ANMAC and have sent in my EOI. I know others have applied for EOI as well. How long did it take for you to be invited for a PR-visa? Just trying to figure out what I should expect.

Good luck to all.

Lissie :)

Hi Lisbeth,

On the DIAC web site the dates for the next rounds are published. In fact it depends on your score as well as the time of the year. We waited 5 days as the next round was in 5 days :)...

Cheers from sunny Adelaide

would you guys mind telling me more or less, the timeline/time frame how long it took you guys to finish

anmac and ahpra?

Dear lisbeth22,

I read about your case with strong interest.

My partner and I are exactly in the same situation you were. I wonder whether you could be so kind to send me (too) the documentation you sent to ahpra as an appeal. We only have a few days to make a new submission and that would really help us a lot. My email is giacomonovembre [at] hotmail.it

Thank you in advance for your help.

All the best and good luck to everybody.
