Ahmaud Arbery: What do we know about the case?

Ahead of opening arguments, Greg McMichael's lawyer told BBC News that the defence will hinge on a two-part strategy: citizen's arrest and self-defence. 

"They got in the truck to pursue Mr Arbery for the purpose of detaining him long enough for the police to arrive to take over and investigate whether in fact he had committed any crimes," said lawyer Franklin Hogue.

"That turned from a citizen's arrest into self-defence." 

I listen to and watch this trial in the evenings.  What do you think about it so far?

Thank you for the update.  I've had a lot going on and haven't been following the news lately and hadn't realized the trial had started.  I'll try and follow, but please post updates as available.

In my view, this case appears to be more straightforward than the Rittenhouse case.  It seems like self defense is an uphill climb for these fellows.

I agree.  I think self defense is going to be a hard sell, particularly considering that this was the impetus for GA repealling its citizen's arrest statute.

Today one of the defense attorneys annoyed the judge.  It's an interesting trial.

I don't think this is a cut and dry case of self-defence either. As they were following him. 

If police actually told them to do this or if this is actually against the law we will see. 

It might get complicated because I believe that he clearly grabbed the shot gun when he was shot.

Mr Bryan's attorney complained about famous black people sitting in the court gallery today. That's unusual.

The famous "black guy" is AL Sharpton. A know race baiting racist antisemite. The family should have a reverend there if they choose. Do you think AL Sharpton even knew who they were before this? No. A direct intimidation of the jury. That's what the attorney was saying before it got all distorted by left wing propaganda.

I watched the attorney's comments.  Apparently the defense didn't like who the family chose to take into the courtroom. The comments were pretty unusual.

Judge rejects mistrial request in Arbery case, calls defense lawyer’s comments ‘reprehensible’

That attorney and his client, Mr Bryan, seem very upset that black celebrity activists are in the gallery.  The other defense attorneys joined into the mistrial request.  

Is this a hint into why the killers were upset that a black man was physically present in their neighborhood? Maybe they can't help themselves.

Yeah. A high profile radical activist and anti semite. I wonder why??? 

Straight jury intimidation. There should be no activist in the court room of any

Apparently the judge in the case disagrees with your assessment...and that of Mr Bryan's defense attorney.
