I am working fulltime in a local ICU at present, but considering agency work for the possible flexibility in schedule and increased hourly income.
I would prefer an ICU setting, but also have a bit of floor experience.
What agencies/hospitals would everyone recommend and/or stay clear of in the DFW area?

Have you tried Maxim? They're a reputable agency in the DFW area.

Stay AWAY from Maxim! In fact, run, run as fast as you can.
They care NOTHING about their nurses.
Sorry Commuter, but I have to strongly disagree with you on this. I have first hand experience with them. I wouldn't ask my worst enemy to work for them. Do NOT put your license on the line.

I have no firsthand experience with Maxim, so your advice is probably more accurate and worthy than mine, anyway! I was simply throwing a suggestion out there.

I worked for Pro-Touch for many years and was very happy. It is owned by a nurse and they always did right by me. I am now in Houston and we use nurses out of their Houston office.I would reccommend them.

I am the on-call staffing coordinator for Supplemental Healthcare. I don't gain a thing for referring you, so I am not saying this for personal reasons! But Supplemental really does try to take care of their nurses. I can tell you that the absolute BEST recruiter we have is Kara in the Dallas office. You can get the # online at the Supplemental website.
My name is Lisa and I would be happy to help you in anyway. There are tons of hospitals in the D/FW area that we work with.
I don't want to get in trouble for recruiting because that is not what I am here to do. I am just letting you know about the company that I work for.
I hope things work out for you!!!

as a long time agency nurse i say run and run fast from maxim. i was employed many years with them and the only thing good i can say is about their flu clinics. otherwise your paychecks are often wrong , you have to pay to get daily pay then you only get a certain percentage. i have had some real good experiences with nurse finders, they are so much more professional than maxim.
yeah i have worked with pro- touch as well and was satisfied...

Criticare is a very good agency. They hire ICU nurses mostly (some ER, OR, and recovery also -- I think). I am an ICU nurse. Hiring is pretty much by referral only and you must have the extra certs to get hired (ACLS, PALS, CCRN, etc).
top pay
take up for their nurses --- you don't "have" to float and you don't "have" to take 3 patients
pay is weekly
very nice staff. Never messed up any of my pay. Always friendly and helpful when I call.
no minimum time committments
BEST PART: they don't call you every day to ask you to work. You tell them the days you are available and then they will find an assignment for you for those days.
WORST PART: They staff mostly Dallas area hospitals.
Send me a PM if you have questions,

Maxim here in Dallas had lots of work when I worked for them a few years ago, but paychecks were often wrong and staff was rude. HOWEVER, I know that was some time ago. Those people are probably not there now. And they do have benefits. They are a national company and well known in the area. So I'm sure they will keep you busy.

Favorite Healthcare Staffing, The Quest Group & Nursefinders (lowest paying) staff the DFW area. I think all 3 also do local contracts in addtion to per diem/prn agency. Also, if you want to work at an HCA facility (many in the DFW area) go directly to All About Staffing's Irving's office.
