Agencies in MS?

U.S.A. Mississippi

Does anyone know of nursing agencies to work for in MS? I've done a web search and came up with pretty much nothing.

Just started looking @ the Ms forums. American Nursing has an agency in Gulfport but they also have a travel division out of Metarie, La. I work for them when I'm at home. There are travel agencies that have assignments to MS, but the pay is crappy, but then remember you're dealing with MS. but if you're interested in traveling from home within the state, it probably pays a couple of dollars more than hospital staffing, plus you get the housing stipend, as long as it's over 50 miles from home. I'm a travel nurse, so it's funny when I have agencies call me to work at home. I tell them I wouldn't even roll out of bed for what they want to offer me. But again, it's better pay than as a hospital staffer, if you're wanting to stay in MS.:monkeydance:

I have never done Home Health, but I have heard other nurses say they have to go into neighborhoods that aren't safe (in Memphis). Does anyone have any information about North Mississippi and personal safety.

I have signed up through Primecare but haven't got any work through them yet. I am looking for something PRN/part-time to supplement some hours in North Central MS around Grenada, Leflore Co. So far, no luck.

Because HMA controls so many facilities, MS is not really known for a great amount of agencies like other states are. Northern Mississippi is not really known for jobs, either. I now live in Baton Rouge, and I have even had a LPN or two crash on my couch because she traveled here for the better pay and more work!

There really are only 3 games going on in MS as far as agency.

1. Primecare. These guys always seemed to have things way out in the middle of nowhere. They have a home health division, too.. but that is quite a bit of driving.

2. Southern Healthcare. I loved these ladies. But, the jobs they have for LPNs seem to be mostly in Jackson or Natchez.

3. Preferred. This is HMA's in-house agency to avoid using agency. I think they only take RNs.

If you live close to Memphis, you could try some of the national outfits like Maxim. They will probably want you to have the TN license, but usually, that is no big deal.

If you want to go the LA route, Metairie has some pretty good agencies. There are like 10 of them. Advantage is a great agency, United is okay. There are many others, too.. but that is a bit of travel since it is all New Orleans/ Northshore stuff. Maxim is in Baton Rouge, but covers New Orleans as well.

I would not mess with Alabama. From my research, the job situation there is even more dire than MS.

yep bama sux too.

I have worked for Prime Care off and on since about '96. They have times when they have no shifts available and then there are times when they call several times a day trying to fill shifts. It depends on hospital census. Last fall was really slow. A friend of mine works at a local hospital that uses PC a lot, and she said they weren't using any agency nurses at all. It might have improved now, hope so. I do private duty for them now on a pediatric case, about 95 miles one way, and am looking for something closer. Does anyone know of another agency that has private duty cases in the Grenada/Greenwood general area?
