Does anyone know the answer to the current status of age waivers? I am 46 years and 9 months old. I have completed my application and physical with no problems. I have been told from the beginning of the process in May 2009 that I could get an age waiver if the process went beyond my 46.5 age max. My application is to go to the November boards and last night I received a call from my recruiter telling me that I only qualified for the 2 year service with no incentives. I am very disappointed! I signed a 4 year agreement with incentive bonus just 2 weeks ago.
I have been trying to research the recently signed Public Law 111-84 (2010 Defense Authorization Act) for the language stating that age would disqualify me from a 4 years service agreement, to no avail. Does anyone know if all of this is true? My recruiter also stated that it is part of the new officers accession program (OAPP). Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

It might be different for Active vs. Reserve. As always with the military, "everything is very fluid", so there might be a change with age waivers down the road. I know they stopped it last year ~May....
good luck,
Go for 2 yrs, it could change during your service !

I hope I'm not too late with answering this question. With the 2-year program, OAPP, you DO get incentives just as you would a regular Officer in the Army, including full medical, dental, 30-days of paid vacation, and a contributory retirement plan. You will also have the same accesses to Post Exchange, Commissary, and any on-post recreation facilities. I don't know who told you wouldn't get any incentives but that is not true. If you go to the following website, it lists what I just told you regarding the OAPP program for RNs. It is - Media Resources | U.S. Army Accessions Newsroom.
Check this website out as it explains what specialties are in need, the commitment, requirements, and all incentives. There is also other incentives you can receive while you're in such as education benefits, scholarships, and loan repayments should you decide to get a graduate degree in healthcare, such as a MSN, NP, or CRNA. Hope this all helps!
Good luck!

Last time I checked, you had to be "able" to do 20 yrs of active fed svc. So if you are 46, adding 20 would put you at 66. I believe mandatory retirement is 62.
I am not sure about the reserves side. Sorry.

I was recently by a recruiter that OAPP no longer existed. Maybe they recently reinstated the program and are not advertising it. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything on OAPP since FY 2011. If it does exist, they're keeping it pretty hush-hush!

From what I understand the Army is not offering the 2 year program at this time.
I just got an email from the U.S. Army Recruiting Command that the OAPP does still exist, at least for CRNAs and most likely other critical care areas.
Did the email state what critical care areas by name or just CRNA's?
I only inquired as to CRNAs and that is all the email addressed. I got a very quick response to my email inquiry.
