age limit for army reserves

Published

I was wondering if anyone has entered the army reserves under the officer accession pilot program. I am a 51 year old CRNA with 12 years of experience and have been a nurse for 28 years. I would like to join the army reserves, but I am probably too old.

Sad to say but yes you are over the age limit. A couple of years ago it would not have been an issue for you as a CRNA to get a age waiver. Today I do not know if they would give you one. Contact a Health Care recruiter to find out if they are still giving age waivers.

I am not sure that pilot program still exists due to the Army being over strength in many professions, and I can't find the OAPP info on the GoArmy website anymore. But definitely contact an AMEDD/healthcare recruiter, maybe it's just not being widely advertised: Locate Us | GoArmy.com

I contacted a recruiter few days ago and he listed all these qualifications for me and I remember he specified that the age limit is 42. That is a person must be 42 at the time of commission or accession. He however, said there is no waivers for active duty. So if you are considering the reserves, talk to a recruiter, they may be able to clarify the age limit for you.

When I was at Ft Sam last fall we had some one from manpower come and speak with us and that program was no longer available at that time. Things change but with the over strength right now I would be suprised if it is back. As Lunah stated the only way to find out 100% what the correct answer is contact a HC recruiter.
