Employers still expect you to present a paper copy.

Dec 6, 2014 What dishes has described is not the same as a "back check". I've been contacted to provide a back check reference for someone and can tell you there are several questions on the form the screening agency sends out that delve into a person's knowledge base, mastery of skills, work habits, punctuality and attendance, interpersonal relations and professionalism. If I recall correctly, the reference form ran to about 5 pages. I'm sure AHS also pre-screens candidates, with implied consent. And for internal applicants all they're really doing is looking at their own files.

Our unit clerk told us that the Managers can print off a list of who has applied for the posting, it includes their on line application details. Then the manager is given a list of applicants HR "suggests" be interviewed. For casual staff, it's open season, the Manager can pick and choose who they want to interview. But no reference checks are done until after the interview. We've heard that from the Manager because our last open competition took forever to fill because of the problems getting the back check done.

Ontario employers do not ask for paper copies, because CNO does not issue paper licences and one of the reasons online registration is best practice is because it minimzes risk of fraud that can be committed with paper licences.
dishes, BSN, RN 3,950 Posts Dec 6, 2014 @notready4primetime, is the back check reference done before or after the applicant is interviewed?

Fiona59 8,343 Posts Has 18 years experience. Dec 6, 2014 CLPNA has "gone green", in other words, they expect you to print your own copy. Along with your tax receipt. Basically, they don't want to pay printing costs on anything.Yup, my back checks were always done post interview. Fastest I've been offered a position is two weeks post interview, longest six.

Dec 6, 2014 Back check is always after the interview. The employer isn't going to pay for an agency to pursue references if they're not interested in hiring someone.
dishes, BSN, RN 3,950 Posts Dec 6, 2014 It sounds like we are similar after all; pre-screen with implied consent, interview(s), in-depth check of the best applicant's references and the time from interview to job offer can take weeks.
tiffy723 22 Posts Dec 8, 2014 I used the power of internet to track down one of the nurse managers who interview me and sent her the thank you note. My anxiety is increasing close to the max as it has been 2 weeks now and I haven't heard anything from them. The nurse manager said the new hiring will start on January 5th so it's about time for them to make decision now since the holidays are coming ....
