Trying to get my foot in the door

Hello! I am so glad I found this thread! Hoping it will help me along the way. I am an RN,BSN. I have been a stay at home mom for quite some time. I have always had a passion for skin care but when I graduated nursing school (1990) it just wasn't a big deal like it is now. I was a Visiting Nurse most of my career. When I wanted to get into the aesthetic world as things began to boom, the timing was not right for me as I was raising a family . Last year my youngest went to 1st grade and I decided this was my time. I found it hard trying to get my foot in the door as I had no aesthetic experience/knowledge behind me. I recently completed a 2 week laser course along with a chemical peel and microdermabrasion class. I am currently enrolled in a Botox/Filler course as well. I am still having a hard time just to get anyone to reply back to me. I have responded to several postings along with follow up emails and nothing. I just do not know what to do as I am getting very frustrated. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Hi...did you ever get in anywhere? Did you like the course you took?

Hello…..Yes I did get my foot in the door and loved the course I took. Today I am actually taking a Botox class and tomorrow a filler class. Although I managed to get my foot in the door, I am not quite sure it is the right fit for me. I need to be somewhere that I will be able to inject more than I will be lasering as being a Nurse Injector is my main goal….

Hi..!! I'm also interested in Aesthetics and looking at different places to take the courses. Where are you taking your? Would you recommend it to others. Also, how can I get my foot into the door.

Thxs

Hello.....I am finding that the laser course I took has helped me tremendously to help get me into places because companies feel that I bring credibility to them. To have an RN do a laser procedure brings a different element. And at the same time knowing I can do injectables, these companies feel they have a "multi-function" nurse. I know of others who have only taken an injectable course and are having a hard time trying to get in somewhere. Unless you personally know someone, it is hard to just go that route. I hope you find what you are looking for...

What is the laser course you took?

Hi ! I do aesthetics part time...I went after the same certifications you did and the way I got my foot in the door is by asking to precept for the company! (for free). I was hired a few months after I started precepting. However, the botox/derm filler class alone isn't enough injectors need a lot of practice :)) Try going to new classes and networking...I had to consistently follow up before they allowed me to even precept. I wish you all the luck in your aesthetic career!

BabyRN, what company?
