is the advisor right?

Published

I am going to be starting the nursing program next year. My friends who I plan on living with also got in. Today at lunch one of the girls who has been struggling with Anatomy and Physiology 1 was talking to the adviser about retaking the class in the summer since she is not receiving a passing grade. He told her that she will not be cut out for nursing if she can not pass this class. She studies all the time and is trying really hard to pass this class and is not failing because of lack of effort. I am taking A & P in the summer (I couldn't take it this semester) and have no way to help her. It also worries me because I'm afraid I am not going to be able to pass. So my question is does failing a class really mean you are not cut out to be a nurse or pass nursing school?

Thanks,

Jess

I don't think it's necessarily true. Some people just have a weakness for academics but are geniuses at commomsense. Some people suck at tests but are so down to earth and "streetsmart" that their on the job performance is way above average.

One thing is certain, however. Your friend will not gain admission to a nursing program without passing this class.

I had a difficulties with Organic & Biochemistry.

I withdrew before I actually got the "D".

Took summer class-LONG days but worth it.

I received a "B" which played into if I graduated or not....(we couldn't get a "C" or lower and still graduate.

Actually, our school said that there's a direct correlation to success in nursing school vs success in A&P.

I have to agree somewhat. If you can't pass A&P, then of course, you cant even get into NS.

But if you struggle with A&P, then you will most definitely struggle with NS.

I am in that situation with A & P II and it just so happens that my advisor is THE DIRECTOR OF THE NURSING PROGRAM AAHHH!!!

I am taking an accelerated course in A & P, taking I and II in one semester. I am half way through with A & P II and so far I have had two test and both D's!! I got out of I with a 97.... what the heck happened!!

My A&P I teacher had a heart attack over spring break so I got a new teacher for II and I just can't seem to figure out how to study for his test. Boy does it make me feel like an idiot!!

You just hang in there. You will be a great nurse, just watch and see. Remember the bad stuff is easier to believe and no one determines your future but YOU. If you want to be a nurse, BE A NURSE!!!

good luck!
