Hi gals and guys,
I have found out today from my CRNBC assessor that my application has been completed and that I am eligible to take CRNE exam but haven't received official documents from them yet.
My wife and I are UK nurses and hoping to migrate to Canada. I am just starting to look for empoyers in BC. I am hoping that you guys might give me some tips in my decision where to look for a job in BC. We have 2 school age children 10 & 9 and hoping to find good schools in the place where we could find a job and family oriented environment. We have been living in the northeast of England a seaside town resort hence we would also prefer to live near the sea. We've been to Toronto but never been in Vancouver hence I'm hoping that you guys could give us some ideas and which potential employers that we need to approach. I would be grateful for all replies.
Public school is the "state" system. It's free through Grade 12. Well, there are field trips and supplies fees but they come up throughout the year and aren't much. "Private" school is fee paying and is usually religion based. One of my friends put her kids through the RC high school and it wasn't horrifically expensive BUT I her kids didn't do any better academically than going through the public system.
It's hard to say what is a good neighbourhood these days. It's what you find once you get there. Bus service is good, there is access to the "skytrain" system. There are nice parks in the area and shopping is nearby.
Thanks again Fiona. I guess my next question to whoever undergone the process is how long from the time you received your job offer to landing in Vancouver, BC especially with Fraser Health?cheers
Are you planning on coming over first, working and then sitting CRNE or taking the exam first and then move?
Probably looking at a processing time through London Canadian embassy and having medicals of 3-5 months approx. Try looking for RGN1 posts as that may give you an idea on her time line from 2008
We are planning of going there first, work for the 250hrs supervised practice and write the exams. The health authority that I've applied emailed me and said on average it will take about 6 months for the whole process to getting in Vancouver. We can't wait and we felt a sense of enthusiasm and excitement on the prospects of moving to Canada unlike how we felt now in UK depressed and bored.
