I want to relocate to either San Diego, California or Houston, Texas. I want to know if there is any thing one should know when wanting to relocate. I am a LPN with 2 years experience as a private duty nurse/Independent medicaid provider. I know It Will Be harder but I would like to aim for a hospital position. Is it easier to find a va hospital job? Thanks in advance!

Good morning!
The nursing job market in San Diego is horribly glutted for both LVNs and RNs, with each acute care hospital position receiving 500+ applications. In addition, the pay has not kept up with the cost of living there.
Houston's job market has become a little saturated over the past five years. Without acute care experience, the only hospitals in Houston that will readily hire LVNs are the LTAC hospitals (such as Kindred) and the specialty rehab hospitals (such as Healthsouth and Triumph). There are plenty of LVN jobs in HH, private duty, psych and LTC/SNF.
In both cities, applicants are waiting 6 months to one year for the VA to call back regarding previously submitted employment applications.
Wow thanks for your info! So it looks like Houston would be better. What about securing a job before relocating?

It is very hard to secure a job before moving. In the past I didn't get calls back until i had a local address. Also, nobody in nursing ever paid for attending interviews. You can skype and stuff, but with so many local candidates that can be hard also.

How do you become an independent Medicaid provider, if you don't mind
