Hey there fellow EC grad :-)

I actually couldn't stand bedside nursing anymore so I don't do it! I'm now a clinic manager so I still have patient contact but in a doctor's office setting...I don't plan on doing it forever. What about insurance companies? What about government like healthy start and educating women/teens? STD, TB, WIC or something similar? Have you thought about a different path other than LTC? I tried teen drug detox and rehab and it was really interesting but too frustrating for me... at one point, I considered nannying for a family... the minute you say nurse, heads turn.

My main thing is I sacrificed salary for happiness. I had to make life adjustments to follow this path but I'm not miserable like I was and every time I come on here and read everyday stories, I know I made the right choice for me.

I've checked out the CLNC thing, and you might look into that a little bit before investing. I have a nurse friend in a major metropolitan area who took the course and is still paying for it, but has never had a consult.

There arent a lot of calls for Legal Nurse consultants but those who have heavily market themselves may be able to do better in the current economy. Also seems alot of nurses took this route so lots of LNCs in the field. If you do decide on taking a program University of Central Florida (UCF) has an online program for $995.00 rather than the thousands of dollars Vicki Millano or Kiesiers offers. Also I believe they are having a $100/off this upcoming Jan 20 Program. Another route of which I am looking into is getting My Masters in Health Law (offered at Nova SouthEastern University) which is also all online. Keep researching as there are areas but finding openings is the problem so you have to be very proactive.

im looking at legal nurse consulting but really i don't have enough rn exp for that ...don't know i will find something....one thing i do know is that most of my issue comes from my lengthy career in ltc....i just cant take all the drama and politics....

i have no useful advice for you, but your profile pic is soooo funny!...made my day :D

After working a crazy day the other day trying to get a patient's insurance to accept all of his medical needs (IV antibiotics without a PICC line available, wound care, Lovenox, etc..), I don't think I could ever do case management. I had to play the part of case manager because the patient was rushing us...it was no fun. I have been looking into other areas than bedside nursing, too...sometimes it can just be too much! I had a patient the other day trying to fight me all day, and she was stronger than anyone I've known! I felt like I had gotten a full body workout after managing to get the blood pressure cuff on. Bedside nursing is so unpredictable and crazy! It can be, however, very rewarding. The key to balancing is to find a place where everyone helps, and the full load of work is not placed on any one person. I wish more people could understand that. I try to help out other nurses around me whenever I am free to help.

the common problem I see in this thread is LTC. leave the LTC and reevaluate. LTC will suck you dry of all life force
