Advice for new nursing student: school physical notes murmur

Hi. I start my accelerated BSN program in the fall and am wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I went to my mandatory pre-entry school physical last week and the Dr. said I have a heart murmur. This has been noted at 4 or 5 physican visits over the last 15 years, and no one ever seemed concerned. This physician wanted to do an echo. So my question is, do I pursue this or forget about it? If I pursue it and it turns out to be "something", can my school deny me entry? Or would it be better to pursue it at a different non-school health care facility on my own? Thanks for your time!

I would pursue it but use your own private physician.

I don't think anyone would advise anyone to "forget about" a cardiac murmur! There are various different types, of differing severities so you should find out what type and degree yours is and do you own research as to how concerned you should be. OF COURSE you should pursue it with your physician.

Unless it prevents you from fulfilling nursing duties, I can't imagine that your school would refuse entry.
