Advice needed

Hello All,

I will be finishing my PN program in exactly two weeks I want to continue on in school to become an RN. My end goal is to become a FNP I am 21yrs old. My question is in your opinion do you think I should go to a private accelerated ASN program which is all inclusive pre req wise and finish with my ASN at 23y/o or go to a JUCO and finish off my pre reqs (which is like 3 semesters) and then try my luck applying to a BSN program? My fear is that taking the JUCO route I will end up like a lot of other LPNs and let "life" happen and put off RN school until it doesnt happen for whatever reason. And become stuck being a lifelong LPN. money isn't an issue school wise I just want opinions.

Thanks to anyone that posts

Since your ultimate goal is to become an FNP I would just go straight on and get your RN in the accelerated ASN program. I'm in a BSN program now and know that once I start working I probably won't feel motivated to go back to school! Best of luck with whatever you choose!

How you let life happen is in your control.

Also, I understand that being a LPN is not your goal but being one for the rest of your life is not an inherently bad thing. Many LPNs have had very long and very fulfilling careers. Maybe that's just my former LPN side protesting :lol2:

I would take the route that would allow for the most work experience. Work as a LPN while you finish your RN. This will solidify your education and improve your marketability.

Good luck!

Stuck being an LPN eh? Those are fight'n words

Go for the BSN...you'll be better off IMO. You learn so much in those programs and the BSN opens more doors then the ADN as far as I've seen with my experience. If your grades are good go for the BSN. Good luck to you.

I never understood why people say "once you start working you'll have a hard time returning to school"...or something to that effect. Working is what made me want to go back to school. Being an LVN is great, but so many doors open when you are an RN, and then BSN, and so on. If your in it for the money, then yeah...it's hard to give it up. If Being an effective nurse is who you want to be, LVN, RN, or FNP...or even DNP, you will do what you gotta do to increase your knowledge and get better each day. For some it's getting a higher degree, for others it's certification, or experience, etc... Are you in a hurry because you're trying to get to some place that you imagine yourself being as an FNP? Prestige of being one? Or are you wanting to learn, grow and be the best that you can be at whatever level you're at. I know many RNs with college education, degrees, and credentials. Yet they are clueless...I refer to them as Retarded Nurses. And I also know LVNs, who can run circles around them with their knowledge and skills. Now, this is just my opinion...Go at a pace that will allow you to learn and be a better nurse, and not just accumulate titles!
