Advice needed

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Im currently studying for my NET then, TEAS afterwards.

Do any current nursing students have any valuable advice for me?

What were your study habits?

What would you have done differently?

Anything?

My goal is to aim high on the first try!

Honestly what I did was talk to my friend fourth grade teacher and had her and her other teachersnpull a bunch of math problems for me. Lots of fractions, decimals, percentages, that sort of thing. I had about 400 or so of those problems and would do them on pencil and paper since you arent allowed a calculator. It had been so long since i had done that, the practice was well worth it. Got a 100% on math. The reading, well, I just suck at that so i dont think i can help there ha

I dont know what the "NET" is. But the TEAS is more or less like the SATs. I took it at the end of freshman 1st semester cause I figure my math/english standardized testing skills werent going to get any better. The prep book helps you warm up and get the feel for it. But other than taking the pre-test and looking over my results, I didnt really go crazy over it. The worst part was the science, but thats a small % of the overall test. Alot of the science questions felt ambiguous and I have a tendency to read too much into it. But Im good at the math and good enough with the writing/reading. I managed to get a 90% overall with a 98% on the math. Since my school weighs the test as 50% overall and 50% math, I had a 94% avg and that was good enough for me to not have to retake it.

Study habits? Prepbook+bit of last-minute reviewing/cramming

Done differently? Nothing. I took it early to get a feel for it so I can retake it for a higher score, but it wasnt that hard.

Aim high the first time, get it out of the way.

The prep book definately helped.

Oh, and the test is long and boring. Mine took like 6 hours cause the proctor kept taking breaks. Then she started hiccupping during the reading portion.

NET...I didn't study for it at all. I got the scores I needed on the first attempt. The math was equivalent to my daughter's 6th grade math homework. I personally thought the test was a joke for an entrance exam. I know others that had problems with the test and that's ok. We're all different and view things differently. Don't read too deep in to the reading comprehension questions....the answers are based on what you read. Nothing more, nothing less. Good luck!

I personally needed to do more reviewing for the NET because I had not done fractions in like FOREVER. Knowing this, I did what that guy did, asked my teacher friends for practice math and also bought the NET test prep book which I found to be really helpful. Reading Comprehension is easy for me so I really didnt spend too much time prepping for that section, but the prep book covers it pretty well. Good luck to you!!! :)

I thought the TEAS was easy...except for some of the general science that I probably learned in 6th grade and have since forgotten. If you're really anxious about it, get the TEAS study guide by ATI and go through your weak spots. It's full of great review information such as metric conversions and some basic general science...also a good grammar review as well. Overall...relax and take deep breaths. It's surprising how the right answer will often come to you when you just relax!!! I did just as I described and scored in the 99th percentile on my first try AND was the first to finish the exam. YOU CAN DO IT!

GOOD LUCK!

thanks everybody, i really appreciate it
