Advice on the LVN/LPN N-clex exam

I will be graduating from LVN program in June/05 and want to start studying for the N-Clex now. After reading so many horror stories, I am somewhat concerned for when I take the N-Clex. Any advice from any LVN/LPN who have taken the N-Clex recently? What books should I be studying? What was the N-clex like? Is there a difference between the LVN/LPN N-clex? What should I be concentrating on? HELP.

The test is multiple choice, 80 - 250 questions. Mine (taken 11/03) was one of the first to start using fill-ins. I had one or two....easy enough though. They just told you what the patient drank in ounces, you totaled it in cc's. I used the Saunders NCLEX PN. Know your ABC's, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and the nursing process. There is a lot of prioritizing. Your program should include an nclex review the last quarter...and have practice tests. Best of luck.

I tested in 09/03 and agree with everything Chel recommended. I used Saunders as well and tested often using the CD that came with the book. I also used the Incredibly Easy NCLEX PN Review and their CD. The tips in Saunders' introduction helped me get organized and focus on studying for the NCLEX.

The test I had was very much like the test questions from Saunders and there were a lot of prioritizing, nursing therapeutic questions, Maslow's heirachy (patient's needs) and a few pharmacology, one or two calculating intake and output. I also had a few scenarios about when further teaching is required (either by the client/patient or by nursing assistant).

Start your review when you can, I used the CD test questions quite often when I had free time and I learned how to read the questions correctly. I found that usually there were at least one or two answers that I could eliminate and then was able to determine which was the best answer to the question. Practise the test questions as much as you can. When I first started, the questions intimidated me but by the time I was scheduled to take the NCLEX, I was quite comfortable.

Keep focused, get proper rest and you will do fine. Good luck and let us know how you do!

I took my boards on Thursday (this week) and passed. I feel the best things are either Saunders or Lippincott's I used both!!!!!! Just start to study soon, as it is very helpful! You can take from 85-205 questions on the PN boards...I took 205, and just remember, ABC's

I am preparing for the NCLEX-PN. I am using both Saunders and Lippincott's. Someone also mentioned they used "...Incredibly Easy...". Can anyone make a comparison of these books as to which one is most like the test format?

We were given the NCLEX review made Incredibly easy....it has a CD-ROM that has 1110 practice questions. I failed my nclex the 1st time, so the second time, I went through that book only(it is broken down into VERY nice sub-catagories for every subject) and i did only the practice tests at the end of the chapters and focused on the CD-ROM. Both times I had 205 questions, and I passed on 11/04. GOOD LUCK an RELAX! It's really not that bad! :)

I just took my NCLEX 6/04 and what our class did was to have "swaps". So many books, so many students, we would switch CDs or books for a couple of weeks and then we'd be exposed to all different question sources. I used Saunders, Lippencott and a few others this way. You might also want to look at nursing bullets. It's not a question book, but it was helpful. Just had little tidbits of info for review when I had a few minutes here and there. Good luck, but most important of all is to go into the test with the confidence in yourself that you know what you know. Take care!!

i used saunder's....make sure you know maslow, prioritize, "what would u do first" "which patient would you see first?" know your signs and symptoms that is a big thing and learn how to read the questions and never change your first answer!

I agree with SixFtNurse2b because on my nclex I had a lot of prioritize. Always remember you ABCs when you are taking the test it will help you a lot. Best of luck to you.

Both are very useful to the test format...Saunders has label reading,etc. as well as Incredibly Easy.

I encourage everyone to use both..The more questions, the more you can test your knowledge, what you need to study, what you feel you need to study, etc.

I haven't got my testing date, only my Temporary Practice Permit...Good luck to everyone!:)
