Hello!
Please I need help here. I don't know what to do after an interview. First, let me tell you the whole story. I had an interview in a hospital the last week of September. The interview was great and the unit manager finished the interview saying " I am sure we'll see each other soon" Great! - I thought. 2 weeks after that, the recruiter calls me and tells me that the are offering me a job. She said to send her all the hours I have worked since I graduated, and that she will have a written job offer next day or the day after. I did it that same day, and then....silence for a week! So a week after that conversation I called her back. She said that she was sorry, but that the unit manager told her to hold off on the offer. She said that I could call her next week. I did so, and she said that the unit manager still wants to interview more people. She told me to call in 2 weeks, that will be next Friday.
What should I do? It's a great hospital, but they have been very unprofessional and I want to push them a little, I really want that job!
I know, because the manager told me so, that they have several openings sure to re-desing of of floor.
Please advice! It's like a dream job, and a great opportunity...

I'm not sure if I have good advice on how to 'push them' to get the job, but I have to wonder - if the unit manager initially decided to offer you the job, but then changed her mind after you sent in documentation of your work history since graduation, then there must have been a reason she backed down. Is your experience since graduation somewhat scant or not similar to where you will be working?
Either that, or she's flaky and can not make and stand by a decision. If that's the case, she doesn't seem like the ideal unit manager to work for. For instance, she might not support you when something comes up in the future. This may or may not ever come up, but it's something to consider.
Good luck with whatever happens!

I don't know what you mean by "push them," but if I were you, I would adhere to tje standard interview/job application process. Call in 2 weeks as advosed.
This is a buyer's market, as you likely know. Being obnoxious in your calls or pushing back in any way will only weigh against you or completely eliminate you.

A NM can say all they want that you have the job...but unless an official offer comes from HR, you don't have a job. I don't know what happened that made them delay the offer--it could be one of many reasons, and it may not even have to do with you.
Roser's right: it is a buyer's market and it's not as though they are struggling to get applicants. If they said two weeks, then I'd call back in two weeks. Meanwhile, keep applying for other jobs, since this one now sound iffy.

If they treat you like this before they hire you, how will they treat you after you are hired?

Look at it this way, if there are several position available then the hospital is probably trying to get the other candidates hired so they can do orientation for all rather than orientation for this one then the next week another one and so on. Why is it that you feel that you have to think the worst. I would have continued to look for employment even though I got a "for sure" message from NM. The last man gets the last laugh. If you get another job offer before this so called great hospital calls you back then its their lost and your gain. Never stop looking for a job until you are officially offered the position and there are no doubts.
Hi!
Thanks for the advice everybody.
The job offer came from HR, but yeah I understand it's a buyer's market. I am just amazed at how they are managing this situation. At least it's good to hear other people, so thanks so much. I am still open to more insight.
Latrice11, thanks! You are very encouraging.
Oh well.... Live and learn! :)

Should I ask what make them change their minds?
I'd wait until you call them back in 2 (now 1) weeks and see how it goes. If they still offer you the job at that point, don't even bring the delay up. Otherwise if you don't get the job...well, that's up to you if you want to ask what happened. You could ask but I'd do it in a polite, non-accusatory tone, like you're asking for feedback on your interviewing--you don't want to risk being seen as a pest because that could shoot down any future employment opportunities with them. And remember that they don't have to tell you why.
I hope that everything works out for you!

Agree with previous posts. The employer always holds the better hand in the job card game. Continue to look and check back every two weeks until you get a definite answer.
