Advice on Hurst or NCSBN? Failed Nclex Twice, Help!!

Published

Hi all,

I just want to ask you all if what advice can you give me regarding an online review, Iam thinking about Hurst or NCSBN which I always hear good things from this forum, does anyone knows which one has more in-depth review on delegation and prioritization? These are the questions I have been bombarded from my previous board exams. I am thinking to retake my Nclex-PN in a couple of months or less, this is my third time taking it and am just very helpless. Any feedback on this and other materials I should try is highly appreciated. Thanks. :crying2:

First tell us what you were doing to prepare for the exam? Need to know what wasn't working for you, then we can help you from there. Each person has different needs and requirements. :)

Hi Suzanne,

Thanks for the quick reply, basically I will just do my study on Saunders-PN book and Lippincott's, then on top of these books, I will register and purchase online review either Hurst or NCSBN to add as an extra materials for me. Can you recommend any plan I should do this time? Which one is better Hurst or NCSBN, or should I do both? Please help, this is my third time to take it and I told myself if I ever fail it again for the third time, I will leave nursing alone, maybe it's not for me. I thought I did good on the second time I took it just recently but it's actually even worst than the first time when I got the result. Any help is appreciated.

Tell me what you have been doing in the past, not what you are going to do for the next exam. That doens't help me at all set up a plan for you. :)

Hi Suzanne,

The first time I took it, I just use my nursing books, ERI materials from school and attend a live review for 2 days at school then I failed, the second time I used Mosbys, Incredibly easy, Lippincotts and do at least 2500 questions on their cds and failed again. During those times I don't really have a study plan, I just study when I have time to read or concentrate, Iam just very surprised and frustrated when I failed the second time when I know that I am more confident than the first because I really study harder on the second but my results is worst than the first time I took it, I pretty much have done an educated guess on the first time I took it and it looks I did better than the second. Is there something wrong? how long should I study, how many hours a day? can you advice me a better plan. I'ts has been almost one year now since I graduated on July 2004 and I dont have a nursing life yet because I keep failing and failing the boards, how if I fail this again this time. Thanks again and hoping that you can shed a little light on my dumb life.

First, get a copy of Saunder's..................start with the CD and try to do at least one hundred questions every day....set a certain time for this daily, you need a schedule. Afte you get done with a section, go thru and review the reasons why each answer was selected. Also pay close attention why the incorrect answers were not selected. If you need a review of any area, use the book that comes along with the CD for that.

Start with that, and please check in with me next week to let me know how things are going for you.

Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for the super speedy reply, you didnt mention if I really dont need the online review from Hurst or NCSBN on top of the Saunders, would it help if I do an online review on top of Saunders? I did have the Saunders and I noticed that this book dont have topics on prioritizations and delegations which most of my questions from my Nclex are, thats is the only reason why I am thinking to do an online review with Hurst or NCSBN because I was told they cover these topics. I just dont know what to do at this point, thanks again.
