Advice for BSN-DNP schools (with FNP speciality)

Published

Hi all,

I'm researching BSN-DNP/FNP schools; preferably online, but doesn't have to be. If not online, please specify that in your response. Can any of you give me recommendations for this?

Thank you!! :)

Can I ask why you are going for a DNP?

Just saw a good DNP program at Vanderbilt University. Check out their website for details. Lots of options there.

Simplistic - I've heard from multiple people that DNP is the way to go if you get your FNP; especially a bridge program. If I did a bridge program it would take 3-4 years instead of having to go back after getting a MSN degree. I primarily want to work as an FNP in a peds clinic or urgent care but don't want to limit myself by getting a PNP (pediatric NP). Any tips for any programs or schools you've heard of or attended??

Thank you RedNP!! I will check their program out!!

I attended Loyola University New Orleans. It is online but you do have to go to campus some. They give you the dates. Every semester a faculty member literally evaluates you on the clinical site. I was a difficult program but achievable. Not without issues but then every school has some.

Thank you Palliative Care, DNP ! I've looked into Loyola and it was on my list. I've decided to not to the DNP route and instead just MSN/FNP as I feel it is more what I want to do with my career. I missed Loyola's MSN deadline for this year but good to know in case I don't accept any schools (I got in to USC but it's very expensive - 84k yikes). Thank you for your response!

I did my DNP though Loyola University New Orleans. Loved the program. Loved the majority of the professors. Did go down 4 times in 2 years. Twice for intensives, once to defend, and once to graduate. Best part: The graduates from that year all stay in touch and we're all planning on alumni weekend next year. I did the MSN-DNP through them.
