Advice for BROWARD COLLEGE nursing program

Published

So I know everyone is wayyyyyyy ahead of me. I'm literally just starting my "journey" on becoming an RN. I just need some advice and encouragement. I'm only finishing up my pre-reqs now and everyone keeps telling me I'm making a mistake trying to be a nurse at Broward. All I hear about is how hard it is, how likely it is to be dropped from the program, and how competative it is. It's already overwhelming just trying to get into any of the classes because everyone and their brother is trying to be a nurse at the school so they fill up fast. I just want to know if it really is impossible to suceed in this field at broward or if it is all a scare tactic? I'm not rich by any means, but not poor enough to get any financial aid, and my biggest fear right now is that I'm wasting a lot of time and money for something that I'll most likely fail at. It's definetly discouraging at Broward and I don't know any nurses, especially any that went to Broward, to ask for advice. Anything would help at this point. Thanks :)

What is the length of the generic full time? In bcc can a student make it shorter by taking summer class

It is 5 semesters. You can't change the order or speed it up. It's set up by the program for everyone to follow in the same amount of time.

What are the schedule for clinical a in full time.is there afternoon class please need some answer

Each semester is different and each campus is different. We've only had one choice for classes. One semester they've been in the morning the next half they could be in the afternoon till 5. Clinicals are usually the first week or two 2 days 7-5 or so. .. and then the rest of the term one day 6-5. First term you are there just about 5 days a week. You have mandatory lab hours that are due and you have to determine when to go depending on when the lab is open. Which may require full day Sunday. I haven't been able to fit them in without going Sundays. Your schedule lightens up after the first semester but you still need the same amount of time due to the work load.

I'm thinking on quitting my job which have a strict schedule and not appropriate for the program . I wanted to know if there's any student who live out this 18 months from refund of loan money from the school.

I've heard people take large loans. My cousin saved up. .. when she ran out of money she took a break and saved up. You do what you have to do. She graduated and is working now with no loans.

How much is the hesi book now

I receive Federal Pell Grant and I am able to pay for all of my classes, plus books with that and I have money left over. The only semester that is crazy expensive is really the first one. After that it gets much better.

It really irks me when I see these horror stories on this site. Just work hard and you will be fine. Broward College is an excellent school with a great reputation amongst the hospitals. Whenever the staff at any given hospital during our clinicals finds out we are Broward College students, they are impressed and glad to have us there. A reputation like that is built from hard work and discipline. People who want to be lazy and tactless are weeded out.

It is crazy but I have heard way more positive things about the North campus than South and Central but your comment "People who want to be be lazy and tactless are weeded out" I completely agree and disagree with this comment. Some students are lazy and do not take it serious while other work hard and still fall short. The retention rate speaks for itself. I have seen students get failed for ridiculous reasons that was not even related to patient-centered care so to me that is "lazy and tactless".

You are right, they make it difficult. But there are always two ways to look at every situation. You can either have a negative mindset and blame others for your problems, or you can remain positive and do what needs to be done. They do make us jump through hoops sometimes, this is true. But if you look at the positive side of the situation you will see that this makes us stronger nurses. We will be better equipped to deal with the hardships and situations we will be faced with as working nurses. I had very close friends fall by the wayside through this journey, and they were with me every day studying until 10 PM, there in the trenches with me and they still unfortunately did not make it. Do I think they were being lazy? Of course not. But are there people who go through this program, don't study, fail out, and complain about it? Of course. But to those who keep their head up and decide to continue and try again, I give major props to because perseverance is key in this program. The people I was referring to are really the ones who don't study much, don't read, and fail the tests and then wonder why they are failing and start placing blame on the professors or the program saying they are ridiculous and don't want students to succeed, because that is just not true.
