how to complete paperworks for new NP

HI everyone, here is a stupid question.

I just passed ANCC FNP exam yesterday. I was told that I should apply a NP license from local board of nursing which actually needs a certificate letter from ANCC that I should request on ANCC website.

I already learned that I can request a certificate letter on ANCC website to send to BON. So I called local BON about if they need anything else. The lady on the phone says she is not sure but she thinks they don't need anything else. The only paperwork they need for a license is the ANCC certificate letter.

IS this true? I thought I heard people talking about paying hundreds of dollars to BON for their NP license.

I am really confused.

Thanks for any comments.

Depends on the state. In Texas it's a >20 page application form and fee. We also apply for prescriptive authority, Dea #, dps#, npi#. Does the Bon website have a checklist of what you need? Did your school give you any guidance on credentialing? We received a long checklist of all the things we needed to complete to get credentialed.

As PP said it depends on the state. My APRN license was online and I believe they had to have info from my university as well as AANP. After I got my license and got a job (so I had a collaborating physician which is required in my state) I was able to submit a collaborative agreement and apply for my prescriptive authority. NPI is separate but easy to apply for. When my prescriptive authority was granted I was able to apply for DEA.

Thankfully my job helped with other paperwork including credentialing for various insurance agencies, Medicare and Medicaid.

Oh and CONGRATS!

Your state's BON website should list the requirements. You will likely have to pay a fee, fill out an application, and send in some supporting documentation. Your school should have gone over this with you guys.

Congratulations, btw!!!!

Oh and applying for rx privileges is a separate process, and you will also have to undergo facility credentialing and individual credentialing with each insurance company. Usually employers help facilitate this, thank goodness!

Thanks to everyone.

I called ANCC and ordered the verification letter to my BON.

I am in Tennessee. So I called BON today and a lady instructed me to download a application form (PH-3824). But she could not answer a few extra questions. She transferred me to another phone and I left message, hopefully they will call me back.

My questions are, 1. should I mail entire package to BON, or the program part which should be filled by school should be mailed by school. 2. as part of application package, there is a mandatory questionnaire, in which there are many questions I have no answer, such as PRIMARY PRACTICE ADDRESS, LICENSE NUMBER (which I am applying for)...
