ADN: a traveling nurse?

Published

I'm in the process of getting of my Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) in mid/end of August and I have a couple of questions.

1. Either ADN or BSN will get you a ticket into taking the NCLEX, right?

2. I have been asked the question of this so many times. Anyways, I know that an RN who already has a BSN

can be travel nurse after 1-3 years of experience. How about an ADN? Can they be a traveling just with the

ADN?

Specializes in SRNA.

1. Yes

2. Any experienced RN can travel.

yes, you can be a travel nurse after two years of bedside experience, preferrably in med-surg.

Specializes in Hospital Education Coordinator.

Both ADN & BSN are degrees that qualify you to take the NCLEX-RN. If you pass you are a nurse. Travelers are RN's, and the degree may/may not be significant, depending on the role you want as a Traveler. I have worked with many great ADN travelers!

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

Of course ADN's can travel, provided they have the requisite experience.

Said requisite experience also applies to BSN's.

Only experienced nurses need apply.

What is the difference between traveling nurse and one that has pass her Nclex??

sorry I'm from Canada and I'm thinking to visit tx?? any suggestions?????

Specializes in Trauma Surgery, Nursing Management.

Yes. As long as you are an RN, travel companies don't really care if you graduated with an ADN or a BSN. They care only that you have experience and can pass the competency tests that they administer.

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

Um, the "preferably in med-surg" only works if the nurse wants to do travel nursing in med-surg. Nurses travel in all specialties, and obviously not all of them have or need med-surg experience.
