ADN RN....do i have a chance at finding a job?

Published

I am an ADN RN living in Ohio with 5 years of acute care Neuro experience. I want to move to the Bay area or even Sacramento. Do I even have a chance of finding a job?

I would say you def have a chance! A lot of my friends have found RN jobs with an ADN and no experience, most positions ask for 1-2 years. If you are very worried I would recommend enrolling in an online RN-BSN, I have been told by HR offices that they consider that a plus when applying with an ADN. Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much for replying. I am planning on enrolling in an online program in January. I am going to start applying for jobs in March. Hoping to have a position within a couple of months. I'm so sick of Ohio and need to get out of here. Do you think that the Sacramento area would be better as in cost of living?

I secured a job as a ADN in CA, so it's definitely possible. The fact that you have a lot of experience as well as going RN-BSN will help tremendously.

Maybe you should first tell us what specifically you're looking for in a community/region. As you know from your current situation, many factors affect how much each individual person enjoys the community/region he/she lives in, and money and cost living is only one slice of the pie.

What distance commute are you looking for? How about time sitting in traffic? Rural or city (more conservative or more liberal)? How about hobbies ... night life, outdoor adventuring, etc.?

You've got the experience that it should not be a problem, but I would for sure touch on the fact that you will be currently pursuing your BSN since up here it seems like everyone either has their BSN or is planning on starting it soon.

Pay is different between the Bay Area and Sacramento, so it depends on what you are looking for as where to move. Living in the Bay Area all the extra money goes towards housing/rent.

I am open for anything. Wherever I can get a job.

Cost of living in Sac is much lower than in the Bay Area but the wages are somewhat lower.

There are several large hospitals (Sutter, Kaiser, Mercy, and UC Davis) as well as many smaller ones.

I would expect your job hunt to be challenging but not impossible.
