Hi!
I am completely confused and my community college adviser is terrible- has no knowledge!
The ADN program I am trying to apply to in the Fall only requires a few general prereq classes.
The BSN program requires a lot of general core curriculum classes. Basically a full A.S.S degree.
My question is.... If I go with my plan to apply to the ADN program then start working as a RN then apply to the RN-BSN program, will I have to go back and take all those general core curriculum classes?
I don't know the smartest route to take, any opinions welcomed!! I need help :)

First of all: do employers in your area hire ADNs? If they only hire BSNs then the ADN isn't worth it.
Do hospitals in your area have new grad programs open to ADNs? Check out the recruitment pages online.
Generally, it's better to get he BSN.

Most hospitals are going for "magnet" status now, which means they will only hire RNs with a BSN. Also, if you start out as an ADN, you will have to take additional classes but not too many. If you're going to go to nursing school anyway, might as well go for the BSN route. It's only a few more classes and much more worth it.

A full A.S.S. degree? I though that was for doctors? (just kidding!)

I am working on a BSN in TX and even though I have a BS degree from 1980 4 year major University and had already taken Intro to Psych, I was told that I would have to RETAKE it in order to take the next level psych class that is a pre-req for the BSN program. However, I was told that I could take it concurrently with that next level class. Talk about confused with the advising and the pre-reqs. I only had three classes to go and now I am seriously feeling manipulated. Can not seem to get these pre-reqs finished.

I believe struggling with the prereqs might eventually drop my GPA. This means if I can finish the ADN prereqs with a 4.0 then I will apply for ADN, but its mostly because I don't have the time for a full time course load at a university since i have lil kids.
If you can go for the BSN, its worth it!
My state prefers Bsn coz most jop opportunities will say "BSN preferred" at the bottom of the page.
Immediately after my ADN-RN, I will apply for the Bsn with just two prereqs required in addition to what I already have, then apply for a job opportunity afterwards.
It's a longer procedure though, but I am not in a haste.

Yes - you will have to meet the university guidelines and curriculum in order to obtain your bachelor's degree.

While there may only be a couple of pre-reqs to get into the nursing program, you will still be required to take certain core classes (English, PE/Health, etc.) to graduate with a ADN. You will use those same classes and a few more to bridge for the RN/BSN program. You can take those extra core classes you need in the evenings or preferably during the summers when you won't have nursing classes (or that's how it is in my program).
