admin's what do they do ??

woooooo, well i only have almost 41years experience, and that sounds way out of line, what does the DON or REGIONAL NURSE CONSULTANT SAY?

Common situation, and why many DONs leave. It's worse if the ADMIN is also a nurse. Some people micromanage.

Then again, your ADMIN might be envious of the DON, a job that is way more interesting, and dynamic, for sure. He wants in on the action, possibly.

In fact, if you think about it- when you go to the offices, there's always a line of people waiting to see the DON (staff, and outside visitors, case managers, phone ringing, etc.)- but the poor ADMIN is usually alone at his desk, shuffling papers, trying to look busy. It's not a very interesting job, at least not if the place runs smoothly. Some ADMINS need more excitement, so they interfere with the DONs business. Also, few people 'work for' the ADMIN, most staff 'work for' the DON. Make sense?

I have one so bad says no sleeping prns. Hello, we get a lot of short term patients. In for IV ATB. wound care or Rehab pt. Been on something for years. Not sent to us with Rx. New enviroment. Can't sleep. I told management next time someone complains about policy, I Will send them to administer.

I would start keeping a log, Document. Once you have your ducks in a row, then take it to whoever is above him whether it is a CEO, HR, a Board member, corporate, etc.

Then there are times when corporate thinks the Administrator is the best thing since sliced bread. I did time at a skilled home for right at two years with an Admin. who yells...no SCREAMS at staff in front of others, blatantly lies to family members' faces, when problems are brought to him he lies and says he wasn't told about them when the shnit hits the fan, gets away with having the exact same deficiencies in his own department every single year, will not back up the DON when the rubber hits the road, etc...
