Has anyone been accepted to Adelphi University. I wasn't aware that the had a associate degree program. I thought they just had the a B.S.N. program. I wonder is it just as competive to get in as the other private school like Beth Israel. I was wondering what was the GPA to get in? I'm thinking about applying for there Spring Semester

hey tab65,
I was accepted to Adelphi's 2-year BSN program back in April. I am sure it is not as competitive as BI (someone correct me if iam wrong); I applied several colleges back in Feb/Mar and Adelphi were the very first school to reply me back in early April, but me myself will not be attending there. I am sure if you have GPA above 3.0 you can get in easily... the reason i think they are much easier because they did not require us to take the NLN entry exam like BI does and does not even need recommendation letters (BI needs 2 letters) for the BSN so there's no reason for Adelphi to require them for their ADN program (i didn't even know they have ADN program).
However, i would rather go to BI if i were to go for ADN because i think BI has a better reputation. good luck!:nuke:

Thanks very much with the response. The branch of the school in New York City has the ADN program. I was wondering, if you got accepted to there 2 year BSN program. Why select a two year ADN program. Is there something I need to be concern with. But I'm glad you mention about the about the GPA, I feel confident I can get in now.
tab65,
Sounds like you have no problem getting into the nursing program!! good for you and good luck with everything!! Regarding about going into a 2-year ADN instead of BSN?? i think you misunderstood me. As for me i will be attending a 15-months BSN program this fall. note i said "i would rather go to BI IF i were to go for ADN.." and the reason i said that was because i thought you were interested in Adelphi's ADN program so i was just saying i would rather go to BI since the money would be about the same and BI have better reputation.
and also everyone's choices is different some might need to go to a 2-year ADN instead of a BSN program because of the tuition differences due to less credits needed for ADN, for example.

Just to clarify things here...I graduated from Adelphi and there is NO ADN program. They have the bridge program, but they are a university, not a community college or hospital. If you go to their website, you will see they only offer a BSN or MSN or the bridge from LPN to RN. I'm not sure where you got this information, but it doesn't make sense for a university to carry a BSN program AND an ADN program. They would lose money.
Personally, I think you can pay less money for a BSN. BUT, your options are far GREATER for you in the world of nursing if you have your BSN and if you have to go private, I recommend it.
Adelphi has requirements for letters of recommendation. I had to have three, typed letters from professors who could vouch for my academic progress, etc. Also, they now have the requirement for you to take the NET exam and pass with a certain score. Going "private" is a lot easier than going public because the tuition is higher and most students don't want to pay that much for their education. It never means that the standards are lower or that the program is easier. There were a large number of students in my class, the class before me and after me that did not make it through on time. I also am aware that Adelphi has increased their standards for their program this year. They also have the regular track or the accelerated which is 15 months of school alone and is what I did.
Now, do I recommend it to you? Sure, why not. I went private b/c even though I had a very high GPA, I was getting "waitlisted" in the public schools here in Ca. It will cost me more in tuition, but I have a BSN, I graduated, past the NCLEX and am working and will soon be applying for my masters and I don't have to go back to school to get that BSN from the ADN position.
Is Adelphi perfect? Nope. All programs have their issues and their clinical problems. ALL OF THEM DO. I've talked to lots of students from different programs that you might think are better or you've heard they're better. But they all have problems in some way shape, or form.
Good luck in whatever you choose.

I have a BA and a LPN certificate. Do you have an idea how long it would take me to get a BSN from Adelphi? I only have Excelsior's A&P exam and no Micro or Chem.
You will need Micro and chem in order to be considered for the nursing BSN program. Also, I am not sure if Excelsiors A&P would be accepted. i would call 1800adelphi and ask for the nursing department and find out. I personally think you might have to take it over again. Take those prerequisites at a community college though, it's too costly at Adelphi, IMO.
Yes I spoke to them yesterday and they don't take Cleps or EC. They also don't have an accelerated program so I was planning to take Chem and Micro at my community college. Molloy will accept my A&P. I will check them out as well.
I'm confused. I went through their accelerated program. It took me 14 months total in school. I was in NYC for 2 years, but in school for only 14 months. They definitely have an accelerated program, unless they recently took that away.
Good thing you checked. Some schools take different classes, etc. MUST be careful when applying!
Good luck:)

:heartbeatI liked to wish everyone good luck on their journey thru nursing school.
I here alot from people and read on this board about people not wanting to go to certain schools because some have better reputation then others. At the end of the day it really does not matter because everyone still has to take the same NCLEX and whatever school you do choose it still must be approved by NYS. The ASN vs. BSN only comes in to play, depending on a person's personal career goals and interest.
If you go to a facility and ask the nurses who are working there where they graduated from you will here an array of answers. You get out of nursing school what you put into it. Some will do good and some won't.
When you get on the floor that is when the real learning begins!:wink2:
divagirl, you are sooooo right on this. My instructor graduated from NYU and said the EXACT same thing to me. She said if she had to do it all over again, she would have taken another route due to the student loans and all employers care about is that you have a license. It's so hard to get into a program here in NYC, why should anyone be trying to pick and choose?
