Acute Care NP

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I am posting on behalf of my Texan boyfriend. He is interested in attending school in Toronto for his Masters for NP. He is interested in Acute Care and the universities in his area offer a ACNP program (Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) http://www.uta.edu/nursing/msn/acute-care

We're both having a hard time finding this program in ANY schools in Canada, specifically Toronto as that's where I live. Does this not exist or or do the NP programs in Canada also cover Acute Care?

Also, he is currently a Registered Nurse. What would help increase the chances of finding a nursing position and being sponsored? He thought of applying through the Federal Skilled Workers list but they removed nurses from the list this year.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If he is a USC he does have the option of using the NAFTA in regards working here in Canada but will need a employer as a letter of employment has to be present when presenting documents at the Canadian border.

Does he know that the tuition is usually doubled for foreign students?

American nursing education can be very different from ours.

the only acute care np program in Ontario is the one at UoT. I know you need two years of RN nursing experience, in a related field, a BScN (that has included statistics and research) plus the extras, like professional involvement ect. I would think he would need a killer resume to get in.

I did a year with an american girl, her tuition was 4x as much!

Tornto is also an expensive place to live, and a difficult place to get a nurse job.

University of Calgary and Dalhousie University have NP programs, both concentrations are in acute care!
