I know we are always assessing etc, but lots of times I feel like a gopher not a nurse. Well, yesterday I'm coming to my room with my pt, (had talked to her before my previous case) and she seemed a little off (had alzheimers, not talkative before, little olf lady) So I pat her arm and think, wow something is wrong. Cold, sweaty, etc.
Long story short, blood sugar of 42. Think I'm glad I had anesthesia that would listen to me, checked and treated BS, it would have been very bad if it wasn't checked until in PACU and hour and a half later.
Her original BS on her AM lab was 89, found out the LTC facility had given her moring insulin even though she was NPO.
We really are NURSES!!!
