I'm confused. If your nurses have their BLS certification, why don't they know how to actually use their skills in a real situation?

Are you in the US? Your post syntax implies English is not your primary language.

Skills not practiced or utilized are forgotten. How many codes necessitating CPR/BLS occur in obstetrics/women's health? I'd hope not many as generally maternity patients are reasonably healthy

We have lab in hospital thank you .

Yes they have , but inexperince they forgot

I am saudi,

may be in one year only 1 or 2 codes

On some of the floors in our hospital system, nurses are required to do life support "competencies" in addition to getting their BLS certification every 2 years. Places that don't see a lot of codes simply lose the skills between the 2 years. In order to supplement that, they take a 30 minute block every couple of months to have these "at risk" employees practice what to do.

I agree, run simulations/mock codes regularly (perhaps monthly or bi monthly?) to have practice. Perhaps post guidelines in the rooms inside the labour cupboards (if you have these like we do) for quick reminders in case of emergency?

Make some of the main points of CPR into bulleted points that you post up, or repeat on a regular basis (Push hard, push fast, 100 compressions a minute, etc etc). If they are familiar with the song staying alive in Saudi, tell them the compressions are to the beat of that song. That seems to stick with people. :)

Good luck!

*edit* Also, how often do they get their certification? We are required to do it yearly. If they only do it once, e.g. upon hire, no wonder they are rusty. Change it to a yearly certification mandatory, and have the hospital pay for this.
