The hospital I work at recently gave an ?across the board raise to the RN's?
what I have found out is that everyone did not get the samething. Some got 0.35, 0.45, 0.88, 00.9, and continues on like that.....
I've been told that it was based on your years of employment.....
Okay so my 4 more years over the 1 or less doesn't account for anything?
We were told an Across the Board raise...Not "depending on how long you been here raise?"
They were doing it b/c the new grads payrate was increased and makes it so they make more than nurses that have been there a year or 6mos......
What do you guys think?? This really ticks me off....I even heard the hospital gave radiology $1.50???!!1:eek:
Wonder how much those in mgmn't or admistration recv'd???

Let me get this straight - you GOT a raise, and you're upset??? Am I missing something? And why are you worried/upset about what everyone else got? Just because you "heard" that other people in other departments got big raises doesn't mean that it's true. Other people probably "heard" about your raise, and like they say, "If any story's worth telling, it's worth embellishing." People may think you got a bigger raise than you really did.
And even if it is true about their raises, one sure way to be miserable is to try to find out what other people make or get as raises. How would you respond to the people who would be mad because you got more than they did?
Altomga, I can't help but respectfully wonder - what is it that you want? What would make you happy? You getting a bigger raise than everyone else?
I can't help but wonder how the mgmnt there DOES feel. If you don't give raises, people complain. When you do give raises, they STILL complain. And you (not "you" altomga, just a generic "you") wonder why you're not worshipped as an employee?
tilleycs....thanks for the comments...they were fair to make...
I did state it wasn't that I was unhappy with my payrate....I was unhappy with the way they went about it; not explaining the way they were doing it...That is what made the staf unhappy.
We thought we were all getting the same thing....like 3rdshiftguy said...like 5% each or something..then it turned out being different for everyone and we did not know why. That is why morale got nasty (not that we needed help:rolleyes: ) As far as others responding to RN's getting a raise and them not it would depend on who "they are".
As far as radiology, THEY ARE NOT "BUTTON PUSHERS...I respect what they do b/c I CAN"T DO IT! It is just human to compair salaries and I and some people in radiology have done that it just talking and their pay to compared to RN's is far from close to being the same....(they definitely make more!) US makes almost $10 more an hour then I do. But again; I can't do their job. It's just human curiosity.
Let me put it this way....the facility doesn't show that they care about you in other ways so you use your salary as how much they need/respect you as an employee and it doesn't have a loud voice if you know what I mean.

True, and good point. I guess their meaning of "across the board" meant something different than some people's. Maybe they should have just said that everyone was getting a raise? Did they SAY that everyone was getting the same thing, or was just that what everyone interpreted that to mean? And based on the response/controversy, I can understand why they were hesitant to say anything.
I appreciate your reponse. I do understand where you're coming from, thought. It's just that I've just seen a LOT of people on this site complain that they should be paid more than plumbers, electricians, etc. It all starts sounding the same when people start complaining about money and raises.

It was how they said it and how we interpreted it. I know we all complain about our pay, like I have stated in previous posts though if we were shown more respect and appreciation from employers we would be happier employers overall...pay and job.
Unless you are union, with set pay scales and raises (where anyone can look in the book and know what your pay rate is if they know how long you've been there), it just seems like discussing pay rates and raises with co-workers is not a good thing. Never made any sense to me...
Why would you think (rhetorical you-- not personal!) that it is is your co-workers' business to know your pay rate?
altomga, I agree that if my managemnt used the term "across the board" that I would take it to mean that everyone was getting the same amount or percentage. They should have educated the employees on what and how they were doing the raises. Then everyone would know what to expect and why they got what they did and no one would be upset.

Just an FYI. I'm a radiology nurse with 10 years experience. My coworkers are rad techs, many of whom have 15 or 20 years experience. I make more than they do- about $4-7 an hour more. The salary cap at my hospital for nurses is about $39 an hour- they just raised it- and we get OT after 36 hours. The techs have a better call pay situation than we do, but they max out at $29 an hour (less than I make now) and only get OT after 40.
I work with a couple weak techs, but we've all worked with weak nurses too. Some of the techs here are amazing and are great resources. There's a LOT more to being an xray tech than it looks.
I know you weren't slamming on XRay techs or calling them button pushers, but they don't all make $10 an hour more than nurses.

THANKS!

Yes, I can understand that. I am of the belief that all the secrecy about pay rates often leads to a trouble. The secrecy leads to speculation and rumors that get people all upset. In most cases, the more open the discussion and the more accurate communication about these, the better.

I believe this is illegal. They cannot fire you. You may tell anyone what you make if you desire to do so. We had a major issue with this some years and it was decided they could not tell people they could not discuss their wages. This is America, you may discuss what you want--in the break rooms or off the hospital grounds. I would not discuss in the nurses station and certainly not in front of patients.

We've had both kinds of raises here. An across the board where every RN or LPN got 5%. Then another based on years of service. The new grad rates have steadily gone up over the years. It's only fitting that experienced nurses move up in salary as new grads are hired into higher salaries.
There's always resentment between departments. During a nursing raise a note was circulated amongst employees that our hospital obviously didn't value other workers like respiratory therapists.
The response was, everyone gets merrit raises annually. The nurses raises wasn't based on their value but a market adjustment. The nearby market dictates raises. i.e. if the hospital down the street gets a raise, so do we. My last raise they made not that I've recieved 15% increases the last year. That's sweet.
Because one group is getting a raise, or another group is not, it's not because one group is more important than the other. We all are important.
