ACLS

Published

To anyone who has taken this course could you please tell me what to expect. I will be taking it on Thursday at 10am and its an 8 hr course. The guy told me I could get a book when I get there that seemed kind of weird to me and then they have a "study guide" on the website but it just covers the BLS aspect. However, I did google and found a website for ACLS that has sample quizzes and algorithms on it. If anyone could just tell me what to expect and if there is a book that I can go get tonight I would really appreciate it.

TIA

if you want to review the material before class, the 2005 american heart association guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency cardiovascular care are all available online. these are the guidelines that the course material was taken from.

i hope this information was helpful. :specs:

That is just squirrely! Basic initial certification is not a one-day course. Traditional courses are at least 2 days. I think one poster commented that this sounds like a re-cert course & I agree.

If you are enrolled in a blended learning course, that would mean that you are completing the didactic portion online & then going to a one-day skills course. Is that the case? If so, the online class should include the online manual as well so that may be why they are not providing it separately.

My organization provides online as well as traditional ACLS for employees. Very few first-timers choose the online version but the re-cert folks love it. It takes just about as long, but they don't have to drive anywhere and can do it in their pj's - LOL.

Its not a re-cert course and I received and an email for the things to go over for the course. Also there isn't an online portion just a class portion. I have only seen the 2 day course so when there was only a one day for this one thats what made me ask. I believe I will be fine.

To the OP thanks for posting the AHA information, I will look over that as well.

Thanks everyone again

The class was not bad at all. I mostly rememebered the EKG strips from school so that wasn't tough. The megacode was so crazy and I was super nervous. At the end I received my certification I went to sleep thinking about compressions, checking rhythms etc, lol.
