Accused of Diverting Narcotics

I was just accused of diverting narcotics that I did not do. I was fired just a few days after I was questioned about the discrepancy of 3 missing tabs of oxycodone. I asked to provide a urine drug screen and a breathalyzer test that were both negative, however, the hospital still was determine to fire me. I was told they will notify the nursing commission within 7 days to which they advise me to contact first. Looking into what can happen to my nursing license is frightening for something I did not do. I have been a nurse for 11 years (in the medical field since 2001) so I know diverting drugs is a big deal and I respect that, but I'm clearly innocent.

Has anybody dealt with the nursing commission? I'm going to be calling nursing license defense lawyer to help protect my license that I worked to hard for just to let some hospital accuse me unjustly. I also have the union looking into them terminating me.

Please help with any suggestions. Thank you.

I don't have anything to say to help, but I sincerely hope you get through this okay. What a crummy situation....keep us updated.

The BON in many states seems to follow a policy of guilty until proven innocent and not even then necessarily innocent even after proof of no wrongdoing.  I'm glad you are hiring an attorney right away, getting one would have certainly been my first suggestion.  In the meantime, until you have that attorney representing you do not, I repeat do not say anything about this  to anybody.

I am so sorry you are going through this, I can't imagine the stress! I wish you the best of luck and sincerely hope you come out of this with no issues.
