Accredited Vs. Non-accredited???

Published

Is accreditation of a school important for you, whether it's to become a LVN? I mean whether it's accredited or not, you're still able to sit for the boards and become licensed, right?

I'm researching whether to take a lvn program that is accredited for post secondary education (12 mo) without WASC accredited (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) which I found is what a school needs for you to transfer your classes, and a WASC accredited institute (Western Career College) that allows for class transfers.

I guess since I want to further my education later to become a RN and take the LVN-RN bridge then it would be better to go to Western Career College that is accredited with WASC so I can transfer those classes.... what do you guys think? Is there anyone on this site who is doing it this way?

Not sure about LVN's but most hospitals in CA will not hire RNs unless they graduate from an accredited school.

You're last thought is why it's important to go to an accredited school. Your LPN to RN program might not take credits from a non-accredited school and you will be stuck taking classes over. Don't waste your time with a non-accredited school if you plan on furthering your education.

I agree it sounds as if you have found your own answers in your research.
