If I remember correctly, there is an IV certification LVN/LPN's in Texas can obtain. I'm not sure if that allows them to access ports or not. Honestly, this is more likely driven by facility policy.

I just checked the Texas website under IV therapy and what a LVN may do and it does not list port acccess. It involves more than just accessing it.You must assess for a variety of potential complications , including loss of blood return, secondary malposition, drug leakage pathway formation, port pocket infection or tunnel infection and others.
