Hi, this is my first post. I have looked at other posts, but they all seem to be very old... 2009 or earlier. Anyway, here is my situation. I was accepted into the Barnes Jewish Nursing program in St Louis. I was originally accepted into the accelerated program, but decided that wasn't going to work with a newborn at all. Anyway, I am due June 21st and classes would start Sept 15. So... I would be a new mom and starting nursing school too. I know this is my decision and I want to do what is best for my child. I am 33 and really don't want to put off school any longer. I already have a teaching degree, but can not find a job. My husband was in the military and so we traveled a lot... We will be moving again within the next 3-5 years. Teachers don't get hired very easily when you move around a lot.
Ok, so I guess what I'm looking for is some advice. Has anyone gone to nursing school with a newborn at home or am I completely nuts for even considering this?
Thanks
I work for an on gyn in stl and we have pregnAnt pts in nursing school and some stArting right after delivery... It's going to be tough if you don't have a good support system around you and we have written letters for pts with new Norma that the moms not do clinically in an infectious disease rotation to reduce risk of bringing anything hOme to baby! Best of luck! Do you have plans for child care?
I've read a lot about "a friend/relative/coworker/etc had to leave NS because she was pregnant and couldn't do clinicals". Has someone had any problems with this that could confirm these rumors?
I'm sure several nursing students are married or have partners and life happens. I don't remember reading on any website or hearing from any advisor while doing my research that "people can't have kids during NS". However, our Ochem professor required a special permission from a physician to take the lab if a student was pregnant, but it's only one class, not a program.
I'm curious and I'd love to know if any of you girls would share.

We have plenty of people in our nursing program (in various stages of it) that are either pregnant or have infants at homes. A couple people still continue going full-time and just have lots of help from family and friends. A couple others have dropped down to part-time as they don't have enough help and daycares here close at 6. You might need to do a little juggling but find a good strong support system, have a good calendar, find a quiet place to study, and you'll be fine!
