Any applied and got into Simmons Accel Nursing Dix scholar in May-Sept 2011 and graduating 2013?

Hmmm... that is strange. Maybe it was a mistake in the letter? Def. call tomorrow. (I hope they actually answer this time!)

Did you ladies resolve the issues you were having? Do you know anything about the math placement exam we have to take before we start? And do you know the exact start date of the program? From what I read July 5th but I'm not sure.

Never heard anything about a math placement test. Where did you see that? :nurse:

The math test or any kind of tests (TEAS-SAT) that you might have learned about does not apply to 18 months program, only to the ones who don't have a bachelor's degree. I don't know the exact start date but I have read that all prerequisites must be complerted prior to July 1, so I guess you are correct :) Did you get your transfer credit evaluation done guys? I hope you don't have to take any elective courses at Simmons..

The math test applies even if you already have a bachelors degree. If your math course is more than 7 years old you either need to take a math class or the math competency exam which you can take at orientation. If you need to take it they can send you the link to the practice exam. If you can pass the practice exam you will be fine.

so this is what I found out "

Mathematics Competency Exam

Every Simmons graduate must have demonstrated competency in basic mathematics and she may do so in one of the following ways:

  • Pass the Mathematics Competency Exam. You will have the opportunity to take the Math Competency Exam during orientation or during Open Campus Days
  • Achieve a score of 600 or better on the mathematics section of the SAT, or a score of 24 on the mathematics section of the ACT
  • Present evidence of satisfactory completion at another accredited college of a mathematics course at the level of MATH 101 OR 102 or above to the chair of the Mathematics Department.
  • Successfully complete MATH 101 or 102 at Simmons.

Beginning in fall 2006, students must satisfy the math competency requirement during their first year at Simmons. Students who do not pass the Mathematics Competency Exam during new student orientation, or who do not meet the math competency requirement in one of the other ways described above, may choose to take Math 101 or 102 in their first semester or to retake the exam in November. If they do not pass the November test, they will automatically be enrolled in MATH 101 or MATH 102 in the spring semester. Students who matriculate in January who do not pass the mathematics competency test or do not meet the requirement in one of the ways described above may take MATH 101 or 102 during their first semester, or they may retake the exam in March. If they fail the test in March, they will be automatically enrolled in MATH 101 or 102 in the following fall semester.

To help students review and prepare for the Mathematics Competency Exam, a practice test, answer key, and study guide can be downloaded. Another online practice resource for the Basic Mathematics Competency Exam can be found at http://www.thatquiz.com/. This site offers over 200,000 graded exams.

Thanks for the info.. the reason I asked if you got your transfer credit evaluation because it will show you if you fullfiled all the areas required by the school or you need to take, retake or test out of some of them..

I still have to take Organic Chemistry... This was one of the few schools that I applied to that required it... figured I wouldn't take it until I knew I was accepted. I believe I can complete this during Summer I session May-July... to be ready for July Nursing Classes start. Anyone else have to still complete a pre-req? :nurse:

I will be done with my prerequisite before I start the nursing program. I'm waiting for my transcript to be evaluated.

Does that mean you made your decision by attending Simmons? or you going to wait to hear from others, I know Curry's program start in January.. I wasn't going to take one of my pre req either which is General Psy but I made the decision the last minute on the day of add/drop period. I am currently taking the last two pre req and I should be done by May.. which are the only two I still need according to my transcript credit evaluation.

Simmons is the school I want to attend. Hopefully they'll be generous with financial aid.

Specializes in Home health.

I was accepted to the 18 month program in December because I decided to take my last two prerequisites there. It is a GREAT school, and I am so excited to start nursing classes in July. Can't wait to meet everyone!
