Hey everyone I received my acceptance letter yesterday for Farmingdales Nursing Program for the Fall 2009 semester :). I just got my letter from NCC today stating I am tentatively accepted pending an interview!! I've read on here that the interview really isn't a pass or fail that basiclly you're in so now I don't know what to do?? NCC or Farmingdale. NCC's passing rates are better and I live in Suffolk, but NCC is cheaper haha. I think when I go to make my schedule wherever I can get a better schedule I am going to go. This makes me happy I didn't get into anywhere last semester and now I have 2 options :) good luck to everyone else.

OMG thats awesome!!!!! I wouldnt know what to do either. Just remember with the passing rates, a lot of schools give pre nclex to students to determine who is aloud to take them. If they dont do well they are prevented from taking them. This makes the passing rate look better to the school. Look ate the number of people who took the test from the school. Ive heard a lot of bologna about the "passing rate". U have to prepare yourself for that test! Nobody is going to hold your hand through any of the program, especially the test. I did here from a close friend who went to Nassau and now has an MSN, and is a floor manager now that Farmingdale is "the lesser of the two evils", meaning they dont require the ridiculous amounts of care plans, they emphasize more on the experience in the hospital. It seems that if you dont focus on the schoolwork the way u should because they dont hold your hand through it (because u only concentrate on the experience) u wouldnt do well on an NClex. Farmingdale would not be accredited if they were not doing what they are supposed to do. ( College professors dont tel you to read the chapter and answer the questions to go over it in class like in HS to be sure your reading. Its up to u. If you dont read the chapter, you wont pass the test) Both schools are fantastic. I suppose it is up to scheduling.

I agree with belladciccio regarding test scores. Trust me take them with a grain of salt. As a teacher, I've seen the all the games schools play to increase test scores. None of them for the student's benefit. Best thing to look at is the attrition rate and the profile of a successful student. Ask yourself 'Will I be academically successful as a student here?'

P.S. I saw your other post oldcatlady. Don't worry about missing orientation, Other than getting to register, trust me, you didn't miss a thing!

Hah thanks NYTeach. I just feel like I don't know so much about whats going on. Like bella was telling me we don't wear our uniforms on campus, two of my days I go straight from the hospital to class with not much time inbetween... am I allowed to walk on campus with the uniform and change? And for our first day at the hospitals where do we meet, on campus or at the hospital. I just hate not knowing everything lol.

For the first few weeks (3 or 4, i think), you won't be at the hospital. During that time you'll have what they call "clinical days on campus" where you learn some basic nursing skills, as well as tons of lectures to get that foundation going.

As far as the uniform on campus thing- you could walk on and change if thats your only option, but i'd try to change at the hospital or in my car. There were a couple of students that lived on campus, so obviously they had to walk on campus in their uniform, but they really stood out. But, you gotta do what ya gotta do.

Unfortunately, get used to feeling like you dont know whats going on lol Farmingdale really drops the ball in that area. Then, you also have to be careful where you get your info from (for some reason, lots of nursing students think they know it all- and theyre usually wrong :lol2:) Dont worry though- you'll figure it all out! They'll give you the information to log into the course website stuff and most communication is posted there- just check that often!

Thats so true about students!! I got so much incorrect info from people trying to get into the program with me. Even though I knew the truth, they insisted that what they were saying was true. I was just like oh, ok! BS like you cant repeat classes to get a higher grade, and that schools are only taking 3.9 GPA no matter if you have 4 or 100 overall credits LOL!!!!! I would just so "sure really wow!" No point in arguing, just do your own research. Seemed like everyone was out to get each other giving negative info. I guess dog eat dog until your in. Now hopefully in the program we help each other out instead of discouraging.

Ohh changing in the car that will be fun lol. Neeniebean, for the first few weeks that we are NOT in the hospital, are we supposed to wear the uniforms then? And do we just wear regular clothes to the other nursing classes? I feel so weird wearing whatever. I used to work full time so I would just wear my professional clothes to school but I'm unemployed now (:X) and looking for a part time job when I start school, I am not used to having time between work and school lol so I wouldn't even know what to wear to regular classes. Okay now I am going into stupid questions but... basically do we wear the uniforms to the 108 classes before we go to the hospitals or ONLY in the hospitals do you wear the uniforms.

Sighh stupid Farmingdale keeping me out of the loop.

You only wear the uniform in the hospital. You dont have to wear it for clinical days on campus- you just wear regular street clothes. Some people are in their work clothes (bc they go straight from work) others are in sweats... it really doesnt matter what you wear to lecture and lab.

Thanks Neeniebean,

Who needs the Farmingdale staff when we have you!

Speaking of rumors:

Neeniebean from your experience, what were the academic challenges about Farmingdale's nursing program.

I know any nursing school is rigorous. But when I was considering nursing schools, I heard a lot of urban legends the instructor from Hades anxious to weed students out. So far I haven't anything bad or out of the ordinary about Farmingdale. The instructors at orientation seemed approachable.

Just wanted to get your thoughts. I respect your opinion.

Do you guys think that working full time and taking nursing classes at Farmingdale is doable?

I hope so! I am hoping to get accepted for fall 2011 and I have to work full time to pay for school. I plan on taking night and weekend classes.
