So my gpa at the moment is 3.4. Currently finishing RN-bsn, and getting a lot of b's. Will I even have a chance to be admitted to a np program? I'm hoping to finish with a 3.5 but if next semester is full of mistakes like this one I may fall short. I'm so mad for making a few huge assignment mistakes that's caused me to miss getting an A, by just a hair. I want to do a pmhnp program but want to be realistic about my chances of being accepted.

All the programs that I have seen (too many to count via google search) only require 3.0. Some will accept you slightly below that depending on GRE scores which will likely be required for anyone under 3.0. If you GPA stays above that, I think you will be fine. Good Luck to you.

That's not a bad GPA. If you're trying to shoot the moon and get into top tier schools like Georgetown it might be harder, but for the average state school or online program, I doubt you'll have too much trouble getting into a school. I know for my admission, I had a 3.5, but they seemed to weigh my personal statement and work experience much more. One of the people that interviewed me had my personal statement out and asked me questions from the statement to see if my response then correlated to what I had written. Probably to weed out the BS.
I think I've just been nervous because I have read too many stories of those being denied admission with good gpa's.
Probably because their personal statement wasn't that great or their interview was poor. I think a lot of schools use the personal statement to assess your writing ability since it's such a huge part of the program. When I applied, 3 of my friends did so with me, and the one with the best GPA was the only one not accepted. He said he bombed his interview, and obviously his intuition was correct. A couple of coworkers also previously applied, both fantastic nurses, one of whom is a manager of our Telemetry unit now, and they too didn't get in. They also said their interviews were bad. Just prepare for your interview and ensure your personal statement is solid, and you will get into a school.

First off research the schools, I for one applied to Georgetown and yes I was denied, however, I then applied to Simmons College and guess what? ACCEPTED! =) Some schools look at your last 60 credit hours, some base heavily on overall gpa, while some like your references and experiences more. It just depends. Look at all the schools you are interested in first, see what their application requirements are, and then go from there. I thought I'd be devastated by not getting into Georgetown but really after applying to and speaking with the enrollment peeps from Simmons I was even more impressed with them over GU...should have done a bit more research prior to applying that's for sure! =) lesson learned!
