Does anyone know of any accelerated nursing programs that start in Fall 2009? I'm also limited to schools that only require the following prereqs: anatomy, physiology, general chem and lab, psychology (developmental, etc. i was a psych major), statistics, nutrition, and microbiology.
Hi there all!
I am so excited that you all are excited about Hopkins. I am currently a fourth year undergraduate at the Johns Hopkins University, and I applied Early Decision for the BSN-MSN program. In fact, I had my interview yesterday! It's a fabulous institution overall. I have loved my experience here, and I hope I get in so I can continue it! It'll be so awesome if we all got in -- and I know they're big on study sessions! :) Anyway, just one more month left! :)
I don't get an email every time someone posts something here so excuse me if I have a late response. SFChef, that's a very inspiring story. That must have been an intense experience. I wanted to be a nurse, because I knew I wanted to be in the medical field, but med school was too long for me. I also wanted something more personal and flexible. But I also had a series of events that confirmed my choice to be a nurse. I volunteered and went abroad and nothing I did felt like a job. It was so rewarding. I'm sure it won't be like this everyday, but it's definitely a career that gives back more than you can take.
Johnny Nurse: Welcome to our chat!! I just finished the bones two weeks ago. Muscles and the bones were so much fun *sarcasm* and this post is actually a break from learning names of arteries and veins. Did you also apply for Early Decision for John Hopkins? I wish I did so I could find out next month! I might just apply for the accelerated program just so I can find out earlier. I was thinking of applying to VCU as well, but I won't finish Microbio before the school year starts. The other schools I'm looking at are also due around Feb, Mar. What other schools are you looking at?
I wish everyone the best of luck. Keep me updated! Even small things like filling out applications.
Yes, Hopkins will notify you when they receive your application, but it will probably take them a few days. For example, I sent my application via Fed Ex, so I know it was signed for on a Friday morning. I didn't receive an email from them until Tuesday morning. Once they get it, give them a couple days to open it and get you into the computer. Then they email you and tell you they have it. Then, they will actually review it to make sure it is complete. They will also email you and tell you that your application is complete and ready to go to the committee for review. If not complete, they will tell you what is missing so you can get the information to them.
Good luck!
Hi everyone!
I have applied to Yale, Johns Hopkins, Uof Rochester, and Jefferson U all for Family NP. To answer your question about application receipt at JHU. I received an email informing me that they had received my application, and then another email to let me know they needed one more piece of documentation from me. If you didn't hear anything you might want to call.
Just a quick note on my name, I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar and it means student in Malagasy. I hope to be a nursing student soon! Good luck to everyone. I have an interview today with Jefferson. I am a little nervous! : )
Thanks SFChef and Pianitra! I'm not sure how it long mail takes to get from San Diego to Baltimore, but I'll wait around a week and a half to check with admissions if I still haven't heard anything.
That's great you were in the peace corps Pianitra. I was thinking of doing it too, but I wanted to get all my education done before I went abroad. I went to Honduras in March to do a couple of medical brigades and I loved it! Ultimately, my goal is to travel abroad and help people in rural areas.
SFChef, thanks for all your help. Since you signed up for early decision, I'm guessing you should find out in a month! Good luck and let us know the outcome! I signed up for the traditional program after your info about tuition and realizing that JH is rolling admissions so hopefully we'll be in the same class :)

...well, I haven't quite applied to any other schools yet! Those Hopkins essays really pooped me out on writing applications; I have all my letters together, but VCU wants 2 copies of each transcript (whoops!), so now I'm waiting on them. Meanwhile, I've been trying to get back on top of my prereq courses (I'm taking Growth & Development, Abnormal Psych, Statistics, and A&P 1)...we all know how important those grades are!
Good luck to you! We should definitely meet up next year (fingers crossed!) and do some studying & baking (I'm an amateur, but, for me, there's nothing like a "baking break" from studying!).
