Accelerated nursing programs in Fall 2009

Published

Does anyone know of any accelerated nursing programs that start in Fall 2009? I'm also limited to schools that only require the following prereqs: anatomy, physiology, general chem and lab, psychology (developmental, etc. i was a psych major), statistics, nutrition, and microbiology.

There are a whole bunch of them. Do a search in google. Which state are you interested in? Some of them start in Summer 09, as early as May.

I have been searching, but so far I haven't found many schools with just those prereqs. I want to stay in California if possible, but I pretty much looked at every possible accelerated program in this state and found none that I could apply to without taking more classes. So far I found a couple on the east coast, such as Rochester, John Hopkins, NYU, Pace, but I was wondering if anyone else found any other school in their search.

Actually, Hopkins' accelerated program starts in the summer. Their Fall start date is for the traditional (21 month) program.

On the west coast, I am pretty sure that Samuel Merritt College has a Fall start date for their San Francisco campus (November???). Check out their website to be sure (they have 4 campuses: Oakland (main campus), SF, San Mateo (20 miles south of SF), and Sacramento).

Good luck!

Actually I just found out yesterday that I would finish my last prereq in time just to start John Hopkins. For some reason I just assumed that since Micro won't end till May 23rd, it would be cutting too close to the start date and they wouldn't allow it. But I was wrong! So the application is due nov 15 and I just started filling it out. Luckily the essays are short, but this school is highly competitive and I definitley need to apply to more less well known schools. I checked Samuel Merrit and I'm pretty sure I didn't have the prereqs they required. Thank you for the idea. I didn't know they had different campuses. Perhaps they will have different prereqs. I will have to check that out.

I have far less prerequisites that you have. I can name you couple of schools: University of Florida (req. GRE), Virginia Commonwealth University (Req. GRE) these two start in May; University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University start in Fall 2009 and require min. amount of prerequisites. You have to research all schools in all states to find something.

Thanks for the advice. I think I looked at those schools except for New Mexico and saw that required GRE. I'm tyring to avoid those schools because I'm really bad at standardized testing, but I might just have to suck it up and do it in the end. I'm doing a lot of research, but it's hasn't been very fruitful. I'll look into New Mexico. What prereqs have you completed so far?

I have completed A&P 1 and 2 and Microbiology. I also took Statistics in my undergraduate course work.

Serasarah,

Good luck with Hopkins! I applied there for next year, too, except that I am more interested in the traditional program...I think their program is amazing and I want to spend more time at Hopkins learning all that I possibly can.

Regarding Samuel Merritt, I forgot that they do have 2 additional prereqs (pathophysiology and pharmacology). That might make it tough for you...although you could take them online. I took pharm online from Long Beach City College (cheap) and patho online at UCLA extension (not so cheap).

Best of luck with the Hopkins application...the essays are short, but I thought that actually made it harder to convey the information. 300 words is not a lot!

Drexel - Though they require 6 credits of English, if you have a BSN, that shouldn't be a problem. Also will require an Ethics class. They DO have two classes per year, spring and fall. Program is 11 months.

Thomas Jefferson University - Though I am not sure of their requirements, I think they may require one or two extra.

There are quite a few in the Philadelphia region, however most if not all of them will require one Ethics class.

I am a Drexel ACE student myself, and I have to say, their application process is the easiest I have ever had. Ten minutes with an online application, no application fee, and arrange your transcripts. They will do the rest themselves. Oh yes, no essays and no recs.

Wow sounds like you got more of the core prereqs done than me. Have you applied to anything yet?

I thought of applying to the traditional, but i asked the office and they said that they were both just as competitive. So I rather do the accelerated and get it over with. They also said I can request to be considered for the traditional if I don't get accepted into the accelerated.

I just finished writing my essays and I agree..it is sooo much harder to fit everything you want to say in 300 words! I'm just hoping that they won't count every word. Did you turn in your application yet?
