Accelerated Nursing Degrees - Australia

World International

Published

Hi all,

I am planning on studying nursing next year here in Australia and am considering a number of two year accelerated degrees which will give me a BSN and allow me to work in Australia as an RN.

I am of the understanding that so long as the course covers Paediatrics, Obstetrics, and Psychiatry in both clinical and theory, then the course will meet the requirements for registration in the United States.

Does anybody know if there will be an issue with it being a two year degree?

Anybody know of any accelerated courses in Australia which meet this reqiurement. A lot of the course descriptions do not go into detail about what is covered in various clinical units. Ive sent of some emails to various nursing schools here about their courses but just waiting for the replies.

Any info would be a great help.

Cheers,

Damien

Be very careful with that, as US Accelerated programs are not currently accepted out of the US. They are not accepted in Australia, at least they haven't been in the past. Our accelerated programs are only about 16 months in the US.

Do your homework on it.:)

Your issue is going to be with immigration, not necessarily a licensing board.

I am an ANP, working in Saudi as DON in an addiction/psych facility. I was considering a masters through an australian university which has an agent in saudi. It is a large university. I am trying to find out if it will be accepted in the states. I didn't get any feedback from the organization that handles the foreign nurses exam.

Any feedback will be appreciated

Just thinking, if it is a full two years, then you may be able to get by with it. Most accelerated programs in the US are only about 14 months, and those do not qualify out of the country currently. I would definitely check with CGFNS first, it would be terrible to get thru the program and then not have it accepted.

i was wondering about the opposite... can Accelerated programs outside the US be accepted IN the US? like a 1 or 2 year program..

They must be at least two years in length to be accepted. So any that are 14 months or so, do not meet the requirements. That is why even the doctors need to go thru the full two years to be able to sit for the NCLEX exam.

say that the program is 60 semesteral units and can be done in a year or so... versus the same 60 units in a two year program... So you're saying that even if it's the same exact subject and units, they still require it to be done in two years?

thx.
