Accelerated BSN at UNF and JU

Published

I have applied to the Accelerated BSN program at both UNF and JU for summer '08. Has anyone heard good or bad feedback for either program? Is anyone currently attending either program and would like to give their opinion about what they feel is special about their program? I have had an interview already with JU and now waiting for an interview invite from UNF:bugeyes:. I would like to be well informed before I make a choice, if I have a choice. :wink2: Good luck to all that are still waiting on letters.

That is really great to hear. I had an intuition that the UNF program would be like that, if only because of Beth Dibble being so great and helpful in the application process. Unlike FAU where I also applied.

Can I ask you about details on your scholarship? Was it offered thru the program, and at what point? How much is available and what is necessary to get it?

Thanks SO MUCH for the info.

does everyone who applies to the nursing programs at JU get an interview?

Hey Juliejaxbch, did everone that you know of got a call from JU if they were accepted? I haven't heard anything from JU and I'm thinking that means I probably wasn't accepted.

thatdude, everyone who applies to JU nursing progam gets an interview.

I don't know if everyone gets an interview but I know that not everyone gets accepted. Everyone is contacted if they are accepted or not. This is the beginning of our Spring Break so I know calls won't be made this week. Last year if I remember right it wasn't until late March early April before I heard. The JU website tells about the scholarships they have available. I know the waiting is the worst part and I don't know what to tell you to make it any easier. Enjoy your free time while you have it. Lots of studying is coming your way. Good Luck to everyone.

Hey Juliejaxbch, I was accepted to JU for the BSN program, was you able to get enough scholarships / loans to cover the cost of tuition.

Congratulations! Yes I was able to get enough money to attend. Get in touch with fin aid office and they can help you.

We started our clinicals during the second part of the summer semester so pretty much right away. The first clinical rotation was at a smaller facility such as Brooks Rehab or Specialty Hospital. I liked most of my clinical sites. There are so many opportunities available here in Jacksonville for nursing students to get a great clinical experience. Just to name the big ones, Baptist Downtown and Baptist South, St. Vincent's and St. Luke's, Memorial and Orange Park Hospital.

I am a firm believer that each student makes their clinical experience what it is. You will hear this from many of the professors as well. You will have to seek out opportunities for practicing skills and say "yes" when anyone offers you the opportunity to practice a skill.

I was so scared to do a lot of the things we practiced in the lab on REAL patients (NG tubes, foley catheters, IV's) but the fact is as a nurse these are the skills you need to be successful. I figured nursing school was my opportunity to practice these skills before being thrown out into the nursing world where I would be expected to know what I am doing.

Honestly one thing you should know is I never got to do an IV on a patient until I was in the Critical Care rotation during the few days I spent in the ER...and this was near the end of the curriculum. So don't be discouraged if you don't feel proficient with your skill level throughout the program.

I chose to do my synthesis (8 week internship) in the ER for a couple of reasons. But mainly it was because I felt that it would be the best way to practice the skills we learned and interact with patients.

Hope this answers your question and more...kinda long sorry!

Hi, I was going thru posts and ran across yours. I was curious, what kind of work are you doing now?? Do you like it? What would you have done differently if anything?

I got my letter from UNF on Thursday and I got in! I'm excited.

Hi, I saw your post from last year....how is the unf program? What do you plan on doing next? Any job prospects?

Anyone else get accepted?

Hi Julie (or anyone attending JU 2nd Degree Nursing)!

I have gotten accepted to the Second-degree Nursing program at JU. I have lots of questions and don't really know anyone that has attended JU. Do you think I can get in contact with you and ask you several questions about the program, school, and Jacksonville area. I don't even know what I need to do about housing. My email is [email protected]

I would appreciate it a lot if you could get in contact with me.

~Thanks:)

Hey Gatorade352, I also recently got accepted to the Second Degree JU program. I find myself asking the same questions. I also tried to start a thread called "Jacksonville University (JU) Second Degree Nursing Program" for those who have been accepted or anyone who can give some info about financial aid, housing, the program, etc. So from the 352 area code I am guessing that you are in Gainesville?
