Accelerated BSN at UNF and JU

Published

I have applied to the Accelerated BSN program at both UNF and JU for summer '08. Has anyone heard good or bad feedback for either program? Is anyone currently attending either program and would like to give their opinion about what they feel is special about their program? I have had an interview already with JU and now waiting for an interview invite from UNF:bugeyes:. I would like to be well informed before I make a choice, if I have a choice. :wink2: Good luck to all that are still waiting on letters.

I received my letter on Thursday. :D It has a congratulations letter that stated what they still needed from you as far as grades, health form, and how to accept your seat, it has a page of important dates, a page of contact info, and an outline of the program. They weren't mailed until the 12th so you should be getting yours this weekend or Monday. You have until March 28 to email Chris your letter of intent.

I went to JU yeaterday, after my interview with UNF(it went well), and spoke with Chris. He said that we would be receiving an email by or on April 1 with our JU logon IDs and information on how to register for classes. Registration begins on April 10. We will have orientation the first day of class and we will get all the "other info" then. (very relaxed and said not to be worrying about anything) I found out that there are currently only three places on campus that are wireless, the business school, library, and the student commmons area. The whole campus is going wireless in the Fall. We only go to school Mon-Thur, so we have the weekend to study, and breath (maybe). I also found out that the other three girls that I interviewed with were accepted also. Only one of them is doing the second degree BSN program. Chris said that this years group of applicants was the most competitive that they have seen. They couldn't believe the high quality of students that they had to turn away.

I have started working on my financial aid and cleaning out my classroom to start my new adventure. :yeah:I still can't believe we are 2 months away from starting. I am so excited!!!!! Still haven't found you a roommate but I'm working on it.

Hey. I was there yesterday too for an interview at UNF, but for the accelerated program. It was intimidating I thought. I thought I did well, but everyone did in my group. I have no idea how they decide with such good answers from everyone. What was your answer to the adversity question? How about the two tasks you dislike question? How about the question about what you look for in a nurse? And the where you see yourself in 5 years?

I meant prelicensure track

Julie-Glad to hear that your interview with UNF went well. My packet has yet to come so I will be looking for it on Monday.

So on May 12 we will have our first day of classes/orientation. Did you get a chance to talk with anyone in Financial Aid? I have tried calling them because I received a letter back in January about an Academic Scholarship. One person has said that scholarships don't work in the summer and one said he didn't see why the wouldn't work. So I am up in the air right now with that and waiting for one lady to call me back.

I have found a place to live! My friend in Jax Beach has found somewhere for me at a really good deal. I really appreciate you looking! I will be living in Jax Beach, or at least for this summer.

Did you find out anything about uniforms? When we have to order them and all?

We can keep in touch throughout this whole process and hopefully be able to help each other out. Although right now it seems that you are helping me more; I really do appreciate it :) I will be in Jacksonville the weekend of April 12 so maybe we could meet each other for a cup of coffee or something.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend!

Joyful- I felt comfortable at UNF because I have already been accepted at FCCJ and at JU. So I know that I am already going somewhere. I don't feel that there are right answers to the questions that they asked. They are to show your personnality, they know you have a brain. If you were true to yourself in answering and not trying to give an answer that you thought they wanted to hear, then you should do fine. Good Luck to you.

Sarah- I'll call you.

The uniforms consist of white scrub pants. The stipulation is that the pants must have an elastic band...you are not allowed to have drawstring pants. Some professors are serious about this, others do not care. I use to buy pants that had elastic in the back and drawstring in the front. The top is a Landau hunter green snap top...just like this...

Again the stipulation being no non-snap tops allowed. The males are able to wear the basic scrub top without snaps however.

So you simply purchase your uniform online or at any scrub shop. You also must wear all white shoes. No crocs or backless shoes are allowed.

I actually heard that some of the professors would line students up and check their uniforms...even down to looking at their bottom to make sure they were wearing full bottom underwear!

One teacher was very particular about your hair being worn so that none would hang down and touch patients during exams (so basically in a bun). She was narcotic about what I call "hair wisps" (which are those small hairs that some women have a hard time taming). Craziness!

Just some tips...

Have a small notebook to write things down in. ALWAYS carry a pen, bandage scissors, and your stethoscope. The scissors are very important! Some professors will ask you to empty your pockets and they expect to see these.

Congratulations to all of you who got into JU!! I ended up getting accepted to JU (I didn't even hear my message until AFTER I received my packet in the mail) and opted not to attend UNF's interview session but have decided to attend UF"s program. I wish you the best of luck though!

Gatorgirl- Good Luck to you at UF!! Go Gators!!!!

I just talked to Chris today and my letter was sent to my old address in Connecticut.

I got my letter from UNF today and I did not get in. So I will be attending the JU accelerated program. So, hello to all my classmates and good luck to us :D

I received my letter from UNF and I was accepted into the traditional track not the accelerated. I have already told JU that I would be attending their program. I'm so excited and ready to meet everyone!

Nursing school here we come!:D:yeah::D

I finally got my letter and information today! So I went ahead and emailed my letter of intent. Yay! I am excited!!! Happy Easter everyone!
