Accelerated BSN at UNF and JU

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I have applied to the accelerated BSN program at both UNF and JU for summer '08. Has anyone heard good or bad feedback for either program? Is anyone currently attending either program and would like to give their opinion about what they feel is special about their program? I have had an interview already with JU and now waiting for an interview invite from UNF:bugeyes:. I would like to be well informed before I make a choice, if I have a choice. :wink2: Good luck to all that are still waiting on letters.

Julie,

If you don't mind me asking.. what was your point total going into the interview invitation? I am currently waiting for a interview invite/rejection from UNF and didn't know if I was rejected or not based on my point total (pre req GPA & TEAS Score)

Thanks! Congratulations on getting the interview :)

Gatorgirl22,

I have a 3.63 on my previous BA from UNF.

I have a 4.0 on my prereq's.

I made a 92% on my TEAS.

I calulated total points to be 385.

Good luck to you. I hate to hear when people are continuing to have to wait after working so hard to get here.

On the letter, I had to call and confirm that I would be attending the interview session by March 3, so maybe they just sent out some of the letters to see how many call backs they were going to get. Or maybe they are sending out letters a few at a time so they don't have 150(?) people calling the office all at once.

Remember that I would like to get into the Accelerated BSN, so maybe they sent out those letters first. Let me know how things turn out for you. By the way did you apply anywhere else?

Keeping my fingers crossed. :nuke:

Julie

Julie,

Your stats are amazing.. Congratulations!

I'm really nervous waiting for the letter.. I am thinking maybe they sent out the interview offers first and then the rejects later.. hopefully not!

I have a 3.4 Pre-Req GPA... and an 89 on the TEAS so I'm not sure how I stand.

I also applied for the Accelerated BSN, and I applied at several other places.

I have applied to Miami, UF, JU, and USF as well.. Have you applied to any of those except for JU? I'm so nervous!

I just wanted to let you know I received my interview letter today from UNF!! I'm sooo excited!

Congratulations! Good luck on your interview - when will it be?

heh. as a battle wisened med surge nurse, it's funny to see the enthusiasm of those entering nursing programs.

wow, does a couple of years in nursing ever change your perspective! i'd still do it though.. best wishes to everyone here...

all in all, it's a great stepping stone :).

Congratulations GatorGirl22!!!! :D

What time is your interview? A girl in my class has her's at 9:30 and a guy in my previous class has his at 11:30.

UNF, JU, and FCCJ were the only places that I appled to. I am married and own a house here so I don't want to relocate. Let me know how things go.

Tramahawk99- In any job the newbees have the untainted view, but they also give energy to those around them that want it. There are flaws in every occupation. I have been a middle school teacher for 13 years, so this is a career change for me. I am not looking for an easier job, but I am looking for a different way to direct my love of teaching and science. Whenever you are a public servant you are subject to everyone else's upbringing. I have to look at some of my students with the attitude that their worst day at school could be better than their best day at home. (This has been true for many of them.) I am going into this with an open mind that nurses are on the front line of the battle, but we are the ones that make a difference.

Oops, please disregard my last post (can't seem to edit it) because I think I found the answer - I'm assuming that all the interviews for UNF are on March 14th, as stated previously by Julie?

Sehsun-

Yes, all of UNF's interviews are just held on one day. I wouldn't think that they would start before mine at 8:30 because they are suppose to last 90 minutes (with 4-5 students together), but I don't know how far into the evening they go. Are you a student pre-nursing, nursing student, or nurse?

Thank you for the clarification, Julie. :)

I am a nursing student - I'm in my 1st semester of an ABSN program.

Well you can't leave us hanging like that.......tell us all about it!!!!!!!! How many students are in your class.....how many credit hours are you taking.......how much of your time is studying......you know all the questions we have......you are where we want to be. Spill your guts.

Hi, JulieJaxBch

I will graduate from the UNF accelerated program this June. Yeah! The program has its good side and its bad side....all programs do. The UNF nursing curriculum has a community focus. You will be doing a lot of work in the community and will work with a community agency during your time in school. From what I understand, JU has a critical care focus and does not make their nursing students do as much community stuff as UNF.

The good side of UNF are the professors. Most really make an effort to get to know your name. The professors give you their cell phone number and let you call them at any time for school stuff or any problems that you encounter. I don't know how it was for you when you got your first degree....but I went to UF the first time and it was not like this.

The bad side...disorganization. I guess you will find this at a lot of schools, but UNF just seemed disorganized and there was a lack of communication about stuff. It is not as bad this semester, but last semester I would literally have to check my email first thing in the morning and last thing at night and still call classmates to make sure I didn't miss something. A lot of times a professor would tell one student something important regarding test dates or where we were supposed to be for a community event and this was not relayed to the rest of the class until the day before and sometimes...the day of...A lot of times, things would be sent via email that should have been posed as an announcement on Blackboard. I'm hoping that it will be better for the incoming class May 2008 because I believe (nothing has been confirmed) that the coordinator for the May 2008 class accelerated has changed from who I had. And if it is the person that I think it will be....the May 2008 class has no idea how lucky they are!!!! This person is AWESOME!!!!!

Also, the interviews start at 8:30 a.m. and you will be in a group with 4-5 other students. They combine traditional prelicensure and accelerated...so you may be the only accelerated candidate interviewing with your particular group. The questions are not necessarily about why you want to be a nurse or what draws you to the profession....my interview questions were about life..."tell me about the hardest decision you have had to make in your life"...that kind of stuff. Don't sweat the interview and DO dress appropriately. Good luck!
