Hi All!
I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??
Oh... wow. I was hoping that I would have a chance to hear back from all the schools I applied to before having to make a decision. I wonder if they would let me postpone? (assuming I get accepted... who knows?) I wonder if I could ask the other schools I applied to if they could hurry up...
Priston- I think a lot of fancy schools started changing their policies re. credit cards a while ago. I'm not sure why. I went to a fancy school for undergrad. They used to accept credit cards but, by the time I enrolled in 2001, they no longer did. I know that my parents were upset because they could have taken a whole vacation every year on the points they would have earned through paying my tuition.

Part of it could be the fact that the companies (and I am assuming schools are included) are charged 3% of the amount charged for Visa and Master Card charges, American Express is more (I think it's like 4.5%) and I am not sure about Discover. This may have changed, I'm not sure. They may have even changed to a flat fee per transaction.
However, Visa and MasterCard prohibits merchants from adding a surcharge to credit card purchases. Discover and American Express do not. I think merchants used to add a surcharge to credit card purchases and Visa and MasterCard put a stop to it. If this is the case, this may have been when the private schools stopped allowing credit cards to pay their tuition because they would eat the cost and at the prices of private school tuition, it would add it really quick, really fast for all the students.
Since Visa and MasterCard are the two most common credit cards, it would be very, very strange for them to only allow Discover and AMEX.
Of course, this is all speculation and my info could be outdated. I haven't verified this, this is what I knew in the past.
Time to stop babbling!
I'm pretty sure the admissions coordinator said that the week after the last interviews (i.e. the week of February 8th) they start meeting to discuss decisions. She said it usually takes them around a week, but it might take a little longer, but they anticipate having the decisions by mid-February. I don't think there's a set date and it all revolves around the schedules of the committee, who are also faculty/staff and likely have a lot going on outside of deciding all of our fates!
So we have to send in a check, basically, for the deposit? That's a bummer. I know that UF (my alma mater) stopped taking Visa a while back, as did the State of Florida, but they still take MasterCard. It's all a big fees issue, from what I understand, so I think you guys are probably right about why the private schools aren't allowing it at all.

I guess they should have already made decisions for 2/3 rd of the acceptance list, but they would not reveal it untill the remaining 1/3 of the list is ready after next friday(Interview date) Dont you think so?????
