ABSN ASU 2022

Published

Hey guys, just starting the thread for all those applying to Arizona State University ABSN program to being in January.  I followed along with the 2021 cohort just in case I was ready to apply for that one but decided to wait and shoot for 2022 so here I am.... months away from the application deadline.  I just am finishing my last pre req HCR 240 thru Rio Salado eeeeew.  Super anxious about taking the TEAS but planning to do so next month.

Whats everyones background? I'm totally switching gears and have a bachelors degree in Business. Anyways, to all the previous cohorts, please feel free to give tips, suggestions, anything you think we should know ahead of time.

Oh and I saw they added the Havasu program too, I live in Phoenix so I won't apply for that one but I'm anxious to hear what others think of the addition.

Got mine but I think I’m going a different direction now of course ??? good luck to everyone.

Hey everyone,

I’m in sort of a predicament right now on deciding between 2 ABSN programs. I’m deciding between ASU and GCU. If those that are in the ASU program right now or have completed it can give some insight on it. Please please I’m so indecisive.

What type of information are you looking for? I am in my last semester of the ASU program now!

This is the shortest ABSN program I’ve come across so far so I guess my main concern is how are you doing in your courses. I’ve gone over the curriculum and some terms seem slightly more challenging than other based on the unit load. Are there some classes where you don’t have to focus so much of your time on? Or are they all pretty rigorous and require the same amount of time dedicated for studying? Do you know of those who had to drop out simply because they couldn’t handle the load? I’m just looking for what your experience is as well as those around you.

@Mtphan I did a lot of research and although I’m partial to ASU anyway the GCU program has had a lot of flaws from talking to previous classmates. Their ABSN program is relatively new. A lot of it is online which may work for some people but with fresh nursing students I just felt more hands-on is better. At one point it was 90% online 10% clinicals and simulation labs. Also from my research when I factored out the cost it was more to go to GCU ($55k) and a longer program (16 months). like I said I’m not trying to totally one side my best friend graduated nursing school at GCU And I have lots of friends I did their master program.

Good luck with your decision either way I’m sure you will excel in whichever program fits you the best ?

It is definitely fast-paced and challenging, but doable if you are able to dedicate the time. To my knowledge we have only had one or two people leave after our first semester, the remaining 70-ish of us are still here! Yes, there are definitely a few classes that are not too strenuous, and even some of the challenging courses have excellent professors who are there of you every step of the way. It's stressful and challenging, but the vast majority of us made it through! Because of COVID, Spring and Summer were "sync" meaning lectures were optional virtual or in-class, and the labs and clinicals were in-person. For the fall, everything is mandatory in-person including lectures. I hope that is helpful- let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi all,

I received an alternate spot and am stuck on whether I should move forward in completing the health and safety requirements to keep my alternate spot. Does anyone know the chances of getting off the alternate list? Still hopeful but also want to be realistic.

I can't speak to this year, but last year we had quite a few people get in off the waitlist. If it's anything like last year and if you were really hopeful to start the program this year, I would consider it! It may help to know what number you are on the waitlist as well if they are willing to tell you. Good luck to you in whatever you do!!

Hello everyone! I am currently in the 2021 cohort and will be finishing up in a matter of weeks. If you have any questions about the program, please don’t be afraid to ask. Like Slsylvester said the program is hectic to say the least but doable. People did get into the program off the waitlist so I wouldn’t worry too much if you find yourself there right now. A lot can happen between now and when the program starts. Just be prepared because this program will dominate your life for a year.

Hey everyone

Is anyone out of state and wants to look for housing? I know ASU has a facebook page but I was just wondering if anyone from this program was trying to find a place too.
Also, question for those finishing up the program. What would you say the most challenging part/classes are for you throughout this program?

I am from Arizona and was fortunate to have a family member let me use a spare bedroom. I paid for the program out of pocket and wanted as little costs outside of the program as I could.

2nd half of Summer killed me personally as none of the subjects were in my area of interests. The emphasis was on OBGYN mainly at that part and I personally loathed that class.Fall was rough as well but it shorter as you are still essentially burned out from the Summer. Everyone handled things differently but that is just my perspective.

I agree! (And I liked/am interested in OB!). Summer is fast paced and they cram a lot of stuff in, and there was not much of a break for us in between Summer and Fall so it was challenging to feel like you were off to a good fresh start.

I know a couple people who are in our cohort and were able to find housing together- it's awesome to live with someone who you can study with who knows exactly what craziness you are going through!
