About Med/Surg..wanna hear personal accounts

Depends on your definition of "hard". How many patients will you be caring for? Are orderlies available? Do you have equipment to help with heavy lifting? What are the hours? Do you have to cross-train as a unit clerk too? I am an RN, but our PCA's work is more difficult on some units than others due to patient population, resources available and attitudes of coworkers. Althought Med/Surg is the foundation of Nursing, unfortunately it is a work horse floor. When I was a LVN I remember the work hard unrealistic patient load and abuse. As a RN I wised up and found a specialty. This is from my personal experience I am sure some might have had a better time but for me? It is a second hell! If you are going to work in that environment invest in some good shoes and uniforms and learn all you can. There is a wealth of information to know and learn from.
